That's unfortunately misleading. Use Borax while > smelting < the gold to help oxides from causing further impurities in the cast button or ingot. It will not however purify the gold. You'll get a button of whatever purity gold is coming out of the mine. Borax will not purify that Gold or significantly separate it from other metals which are in the ore ( Tellurides, Silver, Lead, Copper, Iron, etc. ). A variety of other methods may be used for the actual purification process up to three 9's or above, depending on the size of the ore volume being processed and the types of impurities within the ore ( as well as how it's locked up in the ore ). Borax is great....just not for purification; only to help keep impurities out of the melt/casting process.

Why don't they smelt the consecrate vs panning? The heavy metals will drop and the slab will be at the top. Removing the magnet Fe is a good thing to do and could be used easily sections off the sluce or in the mill drum. Cuepeling will oxidized all the base metals and leaves the non oxidizing gold and silver. The two can be separated vs electrolysis. I like the low environmental impact and I use it as well. I'm a retired government research scientist and know certain agencies are assessing back yard refining for heath and environmental impact. So use this method or loss it? I've heard that a license and training hazmat ect maybe in the future In the US and Canada. This will cost money and it's another motivated to stop back yard refiners. If you want to see my lab equipment lot I fabricated and some where tossed out by the same money hungry system LoL
