Hello, how did you open it? I have the same model but even after removing the screws and trying to pull, it didn't come off. It was working well but after 30 minutes it completely stopped working, without showing any signs of life 😢
@SnakeRiverJunction-en3dy20 сағат бұрын
Hello, I removed the shell by carefully getting a small flat head screwdriver under the plastic tab in the back of the train and prying up until the shell cleared the tab. Be careful not to break it. Then the chassis should slide towards you. Allowing the shell to be removed. Sounds like a connection wire came loose.

I have the RDC-3 with the plastic shell .... Mine is band-driven but completely different than that one. I think mine is 1955
@SnakeRiverJunction-en3dy15 күн бұрын
Nice. When I was researching about the RDC’s, I learned that there are 5 different types of cars. The RDC-1, RDC-2, RDC-3, RDC-4 and RDC-9. Each one has a different body style and there are three different type motors. Pullman, Lindsay and the band-driven.

Once I tear apart a coach or freight car, I always do corrosion control on any metal surfaces which may include sanding to remove rust and repainting the surface to prevent any further rust. Any my rule of thumb is to reassemble using a pair of nitrile gloves to keep corrosive fingerprints from the inside of the models. They'll last a lot longer that way. Funny how every modeler knows how to take his models apart, fix them (improvise, adapt & overcome) and reassemble so they're better than new. Cheers from eastern TN

Thanks for the info. Yes it is funny that modelers know how to take their model trains apart and improve it. You figure it out as you go along. Cheers

Thanks for your input. I would have to update my layout for DCC before that happens. I’m getting my locomotives ready for DCC first.

Thanks for liking my layout. You are right about the speed of the trains but mine is not DCC controlled. Hard to keep the trains at a low speed without having the locomotive stall on the incline.

Enjoy watching your layout running. My first permanent layout was the gg&n built summer of 1986 between 11th and 12th grade. Scenery and decoration looks scary similar to mine before I smashed it all up in early 2000's to build new with larger radius curves. Now 20 years later looking to build the dream layout after so many smaller projects.
@SnakeRiverJunction-en3dy2 ай бұрын
Nice to hear that you enjoyed the video and that you had similar layout. I don’t have the heart to smash mine up. I just tweak it here and there to make the trains run better.

I had to do the same thing for 64 pieces of rolling that had couplers mounted to the trucks (talgo trucks). I also replaced all the plastic wheel sets with Walthers Proto 2000 metal wheel sets. This hobby gets expensive when you do upgrades. I also made some wheel pickups out of some thin copper strips I salvaged from an old computer and lit up an REA (Railway Express Agency) mail car and put LED strip lighting in it. I used bright white LED strip (about 12 LED's that can be cut apart at every 3rd LED) and it was too white so I took the coach apart again and painted each LED with yellow acrylic paint. Now it has that warm glow. I remember making a bunch of shims to go under the draft boxes. On some of the coaches I had to drill through the weight and ran the 2-56 tap through it. Those will never come off. And I did the same thing you did and used a 2-56 screw through the center of each coupler to keep them secure. I also placed a small drop of CA beside each screw head before painting them to make sure the screw never backs out. You can use those pieces you cut from the trucks as shims too. Cheers from an ex-Georgian in eastern TN
