Well yes, I bought a couple of pairs because worst case they go to the wife and kid. But I bought them myself, they weren’t given to me, so if I didn’t like them, it would make more sense to trash them because I sunk more money into them. But I helped design them, I knew the sound of the previous versions, and friends at the company said the specific issues I had were better, so it was a calculated risk.

@faqnatics6 күн бұрын
You mentioned the Px7S2 twice, but assuming you mean between the S2 and S2e. The "e" main upgrade is that it uses the chipset in the Px8. It doesn't have the same driver so not the same sound, and is likely partially a cost savings, by using the same chipset, but likely offers a bit of a sound upgrade. I'm not sure how big of an issue earcups coming off was. I've lived with them hooked onto my backpack with no case, and they've survived multiple trips and a fair amount of use. When I saw this, I of course naturally started trying to detach mine, and it's hard enough that I had to stop because although I'm happy to buy stuff to test, I didn't want to break anything. But I see no issues, and just did a quick search, and don't see anything widespread in the current or previous products. Did you have issues with a previous pair, or just seeing a few posts in your search for a new headphone?

In any business plan the owner must have enough courage to say "NO - I cannot take on any more work until I'm done with what is scheduled now.". Saying "no" can be profitable in more ways than just money. Just ask me why I know this. Yeah - I freakin' buried under more projects than I can possibly get done in a reasonable time with more work coming in every week. Sucks that I cannot say no, but yet I have an empty bank account.

Thank you so much for this detailed review. I’m an individual with a disability and I have been looking for the right pair of headphones for myself for the last two months. The key for me is comfort and number two is sound quality. What I noticed about the S2E is that the ear cups seem to be squared off more than oval and I think that will make a big difference. They also look fairly deep, and large, which will be excellent. I don’t have the money for a pair now, but they are high on my list to get. I’ve tried all of the Sony‘s. The Sonos, the AirPods Max, and I currently am testing the Bose, but even they are not as comfortable as I would like because of their oval cushions if I could find the resources, it might be a Bowers and Wilken Christmas with the S2E and the PI eights earbuds once again I like their squared off design

Great, so solution to great bass is just by spending £1200 of 2nd hand subs or £2000 on new ones!
@faqnatics15 күн бұрын
Well, great bass is limited by physics. Controlling low frequency waves requires an ability to both control peaks and dips in the room, as well as achieving pressurization in the room. One sub no matter the size isn’t going to get it done, unless it’s a single seat system. So for most people starting with 2 or 4 smaller subs will often provide cleaner response, and often for less than 1-2 larger subs. Otherwise, spend the time to find the best location for the sub, and realize you will have hot and cold spots in the room. That’s not manufacturers trying to sell you more subs, it’s what the objective mic checked response in just about any residential sized room will show. Doesn’t mean you can’t start with one, and then a year or more later add another one. Wish it was free, would save me a lot of money.

@@faqnatics After spending a few hours with REW, I managed to get the overall response to about 10db variation(<300Hz), (Except a nasty peak at 100Hz-which is 5dB higher), do you think it would be wise to buy a 2nd subwoofer or a miniDSP, I do not have the option of placing them centre room, just in the front corners. Currently sub is in back right corner, going to try moving that to front right, then if I get a 2nd, front-left. Thanks for your reply.

@faqnatics7 күн бұрын
Can’t go wrong with either. I prefer the looks of the B&W with the choice of materials, but the cloth headband on the Momentum 4 looks good, I just don’t like the ultra flat look of the eat up as much. Also, with some cloth headbands, they get snagged and hooked onto things in your bag, and issue I don’t find as much with the tighter weave on the Px7S2e. I haven’t played with the M4, and may need to. But I’m happy with my B&W, so I hate buying more headphones when now not fully relatable to my job. I did buy a pair of Sonos Ace headphones to see how they do in their larger ecosystem, but as a BR headphone, I wouldn’t do it. Gonna try to get a review on that up soon as well.

One of my biggest things for headphones is noise leaking. Do you think that there is much of a difference between leakage for the PX7 S2e and the Sony X5? Im trying to get an upgrade from my JBL TWS earbuds for school so I’m sure the sound leak will be improved either way.
@faqnatics21 күн бұрын
Hey Amelia. I’d say both have a relatively similar fit. Leakage is always tough, because higher clamp force on the ears solves it, but too much and you don’t want to wear them for more than 30 minutes. Both are comfortable to wear for long hours, and both keep most of the bass inside. I think the plastic shell of the Sony allows for a bit more outside reverb, which isn’t the same as leakage, but does mean that some of that bass energy is lost vibrating the earcup, rather than directing towards the listener. This is where the premium and more inert materials of the B&W headphones help to keep the sound energy directed towards the listener. Hope that helps.

Anthony....does the AES/ dante connection have to be 16/24/32 specific for use or it doesn't matter
@faqnatics23 күн бұрын
Here’s what I think you’re asking, but let me know if I misunderstood. There are a few “AES” designations to pay attention to. For the purposes of send multi-channel high-res audio, 2-way communication, etc, we are discussing AES67, which is what you’d be looking for. It can be used on a 16/24/32 processor, the limit to the channel assignments really just comes to a limit in the processor. My StormAudio processor as an example has 32 AoIP outputs, which I can use in multiple configurations or setups in multiple rooms. Really the only constraint is having Ethernet cables connected over the network. Connections are as simple as an AES67 Ethernet port from the processor, source, etc. into a network switch, and then an Ethernet cable from the switch to the AES67 port on the back of you amplifier of amplified speaker. Then after discovering them, you can configure them however you want. Does that answer the question? Either way let me know and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

Do they use Bluetooth 5.4 ?
@faqnatics29 күн бұрын
No, they operate on BT5.2, which is pretty standard for the recent Bose and Sony models as well. From what I know of 5.4, a lot of the difference revolves around point to multipoint (not for audio), but in the data, or retail price tagging. Distance, codecs, and other features are the same, although I’m sure there is, as always, a bit of a reliability upgrade. Really for tech like BT, it just depends on when a headphone is released as to who has the latest version. Plus since lossless protocols like AAC and AptX have been out for years, it’s the drivers, wiring, and DSP that are going to have the biggest result on the sound. As an example I do have a pair of Sonos Ace headphones which are on 5.4, but don’t sound as good, or have the ANC of the Px7S2e, Sony, or Bose models. I’ll have a deeper review during the holidays, but personally while I like knowing my toys have the latest tech, I wouldn’t be too worried about 5.2 vs 5.4 as a deal breaker. Hope that helps. If you had something more specific as a reason to ask, let me know.

Thanks a lot for an answer. 😊
@faqnatics2 ай бұрын
Great question. Each sub is aligned for polarity and time delay in order to get the cleanest sound. By positioning them into the corners, you get the most gain out of the subs, but by having a sub in each corner, and adjusting for time and polarity, you are generally able to cancel out most standing or modal waves in the room. Since that covers the general bass in the room, we then layered in one Infrasonic sub. Only one was needed in this room for pressurization, and because lower notes are so long, they don't really have the same issues with modal waves. Hope that helps. Once I get my new theater done, I'll have it initially setup with a Storm Processor because there is a lot it can do that the Trinnov can't, but I will likely borrow one to compare Waveforming vs. Dirac ART vs. just polarity and time aligning the subs in four corners. I think there is a lot of fanboy love for one brand or another because it's probably the first time the room had a processor capable of doing the proper calculations, but I'm curious how they stack up objectively, or what I think will happen is that they effectively do the same thing in different ways, at which point the answer is which one is easier to execute in your room.

Trying to decide between px7s2e and Beats Studio pro. I like the connectivity with Apple but multipoint is probably fine for me as I mostly just use with my iPhone. I found the beats to be uncomfortable after hours of work calls. Did you find the px7 better for all day use at a desk or just walking around outside? I also live in a hot climate, how do these hold up when it is hot outside?
@faqnatics3 ай бұрын
@@naimishpatel2644 no comparison between the two. The Beats are a bit lighter, but the construction is far more plastic, and don’t sit on the top of the head as nicely or seal against the ears as well, IMO, and I own them as well. Both are good products, but the materials, weight balance, and sound from the PX7 S2e are better, and I already own them both, and never pull out my current Beats, even though I have a place in my heart for them, since my team helped to develop them. They are well-made, so you can’t go wrong either way, but yes, I walked around, sat at my desk all day, and am happy I bought the B&W headphones.

I have all Apple devices. I like how the beats was easy to change between laptop and iPhone. How has the Bluetooth been for you? I noticed they support being connected to two at once.
@faqnatics3 ай бұрын
@@naimishpatel2644 Yes, I believe they can. I find I typically have them connected to my phone, but when on my laptop, I'll have them connected to both. Nothing is simpler than a iPhone accessory to an Apple device, but BT is pretty simple, and once connected, usually auto-connects to the last device. If that was the #1 priority I'd say Beats is best, but if you already know you don't like wearing them for hours at a time, then I think the Px7 S2e are the better product, and deal with the occasional need to go to BT settings to connect to the second device. I have an iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro, along with a few PC based devices, and in the case of over-ear headphones I don't think the Beats or Apple products are as good overall. However, I have a few different in-ears, and since I'm already giving up a bit of quality, I like the lightweight and easy connection of the AirPod Pro, so I can have them in my pocket, pop them in for a call or while watching something, and then put them back in a pocket. With Over-ears, I'm just more concerned with comfort, sound, and materials than the Apple connection. My .02 cents.

what if my room is really small,like 4.5m x 2.8m x 2.7m
@faqnatics3 ай бұрын
That's not too bad of a room. Unfortunately. you are probably going to be capped at 2-3 seats in the room, so I'd recommend going with a couch to add more seating without as much width. Any chance the room is in an attic space, where the side walls are open behind, rather. than with a wall on the other side? If so you can use fabric walls like me, and place the speakers inside the wall cavities, so they don't take up space in the room. I'll be documenting my room build in November and December once I get over my COVID from CEDIA, and finish my family room project. I you don't have open space behind the walls, go with a good in-wall speakers with an included back-box, so that again, you can. get those seats as far away from the speakers as possible.

@@faqnatics Hope you recover soon! I had COVID about 2-3 months ago, and it felt like getting hit by a truck. It took at least 1-2 months to fully recover. My room has concrete walls since I live in a high-rise building in Taiwan. You're right-I might only fit 2 seats in the room, probably positioned around 3 meters away from the screen. I'm planning to use a Barco Bragi projector with DT's AT screen, about 130". For speakers, I'm considering Wisdom Audio P38m point source speakers for LCR, along with Sage Series 2 V2 point source speakers for the surrounds and Atmos channels (based on their website, they can be used in/on-wall and ceiling). Your room build will show in this channel?

I thought "This guy has a signed Les Paul on a wall mount, so clearly has something to say that's worth listening to." Musicians and music lovers alike accept little to no compromise when it comes to sound quality and comfort.
@faqnatics3 ай бұрын
Love it, and yes, if I'm going to listen to something, I want it to be on the best something I've got. The guitar was a gift from Slash which he signed, as well as a photo, after I helped him out with a project a few years back. I wish I could say it was a Gibson Les Paul, but it's an Epiphone Slash Edition Les Paul Standard in Tobacco Burst, so while not a $6k guitar, the personal signature and guitar make it pretty special. Hope you enjoyed the video. I have a ton of new content coming with CEDIA now behind us, and it should be a blast. Please subscribe if you aren't and I may have to do a video int eh wall behind me. I've had a few people ask me about the things I have back there, most of which are products I've built, or key things from my career.

At what SPL are the sweeps being ran? I'm asking because it would help to know what is a peak and what is a dip in relation to the intended output. Fo example if the signal that was sent to the sub (at the 7:39 timestamp) was sent out at 75dB, then it would follow that the only 2 dips below the intended SPL are at 52Hz and roughly 104Hz. That's very different than if the signal was 93dB, which would make everything above 40Hz is losing energy. If the signal was sent out at 75dB you could probably EQ all of those peaks to flatten the response and possibly ad 2-3dB to the 52Hz and 104Hz dips to bring them up a bit if possible.
@faqnaticsАй бұрын
I'll go through some of my notes and ask Anthony, but typically he would be running that signal at reference level with pink noise to properly calibrate it, so I don't think he'd be running it at 75Hz, but I'll see if I can get an answer.
@wells2671Ай бұрын
@@faqnatics I'm guessing that you meant to write 75dB no Hz.

Eventhough its highlighted once about the atmos center pair wider than the rest 2 pairs, its missed. Is it possible to get his thoughts?
@faqnaticsАй бұрын
Let me see what I can get from him in regards to this, and I'll try to rewatch to see if I can find the point you are referencing. I know at one point we were talking about the rear surrounds being wider, because having them directly behind you often confused the brain into thinking it was in front of you because of the directionality of where it hits the ears. I'll ask him and in the meantime give it a watch to see if I can better clarify the points made.
@anoopk1771Ай бұрын
@faqnatics yes, for rear surrounds he recommends 165degs, much closer than the Dolby spec. My point was about the Atmos center pair, it's wider in the plan than the front and rear Atmos speakers.
