The most beautiful song I've ever heard. Francesca Tanksley, I'm in love with her sound, very spiritual. Just wish the solo was longer.

non capisco tutti questi "hallelujah"... Grandi musicisti, ma a parte batterista e sassofonista, tutto sembrava solo una prova muscolare. Il suono di di McBride poi, è imbarazzante...

Blade is what I would call a classical jazz drummer. His groove is slightly behind the beat. Accents and fills are quotes from many of the old time players, understated and cool. Ride crashes, snare rimshots but not too loud. He swings with the others. A downbeat player. Just smooth.

It is interesting to hear a tenor on this song. Josh has a full open-throat sound, like Joe Henderson. Ornette’s alto is pinched and cutting (not an insult!). Pat & Josh were really good here.

R.I.P. my Newark homeboy Wayne (feb 2 2023). It's weird that I went on a quest to listen to his discography just 2 weeks ago. I announced I was too dumb to understand Wayne Shorter's music, even though I saw him front row at Newport Jazz Festival in the 80s. I guess it's because his music neither swings (in the traditional sense) nor is hummable. You can't hum to Braxton, but Braxton often swings, like Cecil. Wayne was just weird and I give him a huge hat tip for pushing the envelope ALL HIS LIFE. He was doing Trane's sheets of sound from album no.1. He just moved on and kept pushing forward. I can't say I am or was a big fan of Weather Report, but his solo album Super Nova does feature one of the greatest example of the Brazilian concept of Saudade and prettiest Easter egg via Maria Booker in Antonio Carlos Jobim's Dindi). Wayne was great. He sounded like no one else but Wayne, but he also carried the legacy of Trane, Bartz, Shepp, even Rahsaan on his back. R.I.P. my totes awesome brick city brochacho. One day, if not now, people will acknowledge your greatness.
