I remember when this was originally publisbed under the title Brick Testament. We used images (with permission) for illustrating Bible stories in all-age services. Went down really well for the annual Nativity Service.

How can anyone in the year 2024, not think this religious nonsense is just utter bonkers? I mean, I get it in the 12th century, but to keep it up in the 21st, you’ve gotta be a special kind of stupid.

Isn't this effectively claiming ownership of the entire area enclosed by the string? The only real way that the enclosed area could be considered private is if the Orthodox Jews own that area and don't allow outsiders in unconditionally.

Christian here. I think this video was recommended to me because the title has "Christian" in it. I'll respond and see how "friendly" of an atheist you are. Quite frankly, I've seen a lot of angry Christians and atheists being pretty intolerant of one another. No need on either side. I actually agree with you because your conclusions actually align with the Bible, believe it or not. See below. #1. Married spouses should enjoy intimacy with one another and want to please one another. This should be mutually agreed upon. Not forced. Lori is referring to the scripture: "Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control." -1 Corinthians 7:5 (NIV) Basically, it is saying to not keep denying one another s*x because it may lead to the denied person being tempted to cheat. However, if you truly love someone, you'll want to please them, not just with intimacy but also with consideration. Waking someone up in the early hours of the morning or forcing someone would not be kind. Love includes being patient, kind, and not self-seeking or selfish (1 Corinthians 13:4). Conclusion: Agree to have a mutually loving and healthy intimate life that is enjoyable (not compared to a duty such as cleaning a toilet). #2. Women absolutely can work. Proverbs 31 lists the "ideal" woman who buys food, plants, cooks, sews, and does business deals. There are women in the Bible (such as Deborah, the judge in Judges 4) who ruled. If God approved women to do business deals and be judges in the bible, then why would he deny them the ability to work now? She should be okay with women working in any field as long as they are not doing anything immoral. FYI: A woman doctor saved my child's life via an emergency c-section less than 2 years ago. When I need help or a family member has a medical emergency, I do not care if the doctor is a male or female, I only care that they can help. Oh, and women can have children and grandchildren as well while working. Some women even work from home and watch after children. Conclusion: Women can work. #3. When she mentions women in uniform, she is probably referring to "A woman must not wear men’s clothing, nor a man wear women’s clothing, for the Lord your God detests anyone who does this." -Deuteronomy 22:5 I highly doubt that a work uniform is what this scripture is referring to. Women police officers and military workers are not trying to attract men when in uniform; rather, they are SERVING OUR COUNTRY. That should be the main focus. Conclusion: Women can wear work uniforms. #4. She states that lack of cooking is why there are broken families and more divorces. Here I will use common sense because this statement has absolutely nothing to do with Christianity. How about infidelity, lack of commitment, financial struggles or abuse being the most common reasons for broken families and divorce? Lack of cooking does not even begin to compare. My responses stop here, so I don't write a whole book about the inaccuracies. Her ideals are heavily influenced by her husband and other men surrounding her. They may be using religion to control/ restrict the women within their churches and households, and the women allow it because they do not fully know how to use the Bible, the actual word of God, to disprove certain sexist ideologies. The women also do not know how useful they can be inside and outside of the home or how to use the Bible to assert their rights to better treatment. Relationships should involve love and respect (Ephesians 5:33). Humbly giving the true Christian view.

I think the Eruv should be held to the same standard as other wires like telecommunications lines so that it will be just as safe. The Jewish community that wants it should pay for it that way the separation of church and state will be maintained. Other than that I don’t think it too unreasonable as long as it doesn’t cause problems.

I was raised in South Jersey and live in Ohio.My parents had 9 kids . We all went to Catholic School. The City School busses I believe were in a crisis because they have a budget. They worried about who is going to be financially responsible for bussing kids and it's not in their budget and also accidents? Which I understand their concerns. I went to Catholic School for a few years and went x3 a week for Catechism around 5pm . My parents paid for their kids, about $1500 each yearly . We have a Separation of Church and State! I'm not against ANYONE'S RELIGION. IM AGAINST USING PUBLIC SCHOOL CITY BUSSES FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS. Parents are not allowed to sit in or what is being taught to their kids?? Plus using pizza and ice cream to entice kids!! Lifewise isn't paying the bus drivers, maintenance of the vehicles or LIABILITY !! Take your child and place them in a RELIGIOUS SCHOOL !! I'm close to my 60s, grew up with my siblings and went to Public Schools, Church . I'm a lapsed Roman Catholic! I'm tired of the lies , division and especially the HYPOCRISY!! I just can't fathom everything that is going on if I wasn't one of the working poor and taking care of pop-pop who has dementia and a daughter that's 27 with downs, autism, nonverbal with the mind of a child , and Im the only driver that has to do all the running? If I wasn't such a procrastinating, bat shit crazy women with a sarcastic sense of humor? I would be an alcoholic by now !! 😉 Project 2025 will hurt ALL OF US ( unless you are part of the 1%?) farmers, unions, teachers, seniors education, health, social security, Medicaid, Medicare etc. FYI: In case you have never known, the Catholic Church has for DECADES, been giving $$$ to Lobbyists for their own AGENDA ! AKA, WOMEN'S RIGHTS, EQUAL PAY, etc. ? They are also able to write off that money for reimbursement from the government!! They also received PPP $$ during the pandemic! A Catholic Church in Chicago had a $$$ BILLION $$$ cash reserve and still received PPP $$$ . Just so you know, I got my arse kicked by the nuns in Catholic School and then my mother would do the same and bring me back to school to show the nun her work?? Thank you for letting me vent ! Be safe. VOTE 💙 This is what happens FOR NOT PUTTING NIXON ON TRIAL!!

I discovered him through his Christmas lectures, which are truly a masterpiece. That's how he gained my respect. You have to understand that many European countries have very ingrained traditions, once pagan, then christianized, and now have lost their religious significance. I disagree with him on anti trans. I believe all religions are bad, i don't want more churches, mosques or synagogues built in my country. The problem with Islam in Europe is passing legislation based on their religious beliefs. We must reject all attempts to curb our hard gained human rights.

I'm not sure how long this practice has been going on but I doubt it just started this year. I think the question here is why did this incident happen and how can the practice continue safely. Is it possible it was tampered with? Hell, what makes this eruv different from any other line on the poles??? Is there some blessing or ritual that can make a telephone line serve double duty? Obviously this needs to be practiced safely but this doesn't seem like and out of everyone else's way but it seems a simple problem to overcome...

And this is where I come back to the need for freedom *FROM* religion laws. Religious people seem to get passes that other groups simply don't. For example, if an orienteering club wanted to put up something like an eruv, would they be allowed to do so? Short of a lot of bribery, I am pretty sure the answer would be No. What does make this case a little unusual is that the victim is not a child or a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a woman, a person with inadequate financial resources &/or housing, a disabled person or an elderly person. And that shows that religion can be a danger to anyone, not just people who are known to be vulnerable.

sounds to me like this is just a case of people making a mistake with how to set things up properly and safely as long as this stuff is done safely i dont see a problem... and i think in this case the problem was it not being done right like a wire/string over a street like this shouldnt be a problem, since for example: parades or festivals often do it as well to hang flags, banners or other decorations - but im guessing in this case things werent done to the same standard (or something else went terribly wrong) so as long as what is being put up meets safety standards, im not gonna oppose this and always remember: even when people work to incredibly high standards... occasionally all risk factors come together in just the right way to slip past all safety measures and an accident happens - the important thing to do in a case like this is to identify what went wrong and how to make sure that doesnt happen again final sidenote - i dont think a "softer" material would have helped in this case... the effect would have been the same (speed and friction with a small impact area are what causes the most damage there) and such a softer material might have a higher risk of having the exact breaking situation as happened in this case - im not a civil engineer, so i dont know whats standard or recommended practice for usecases like this... but from what i remember seeing, wires are pretty common for something like this (especially when used for such long distances - needs to be sturdy enough to not break under its own weight)

What I don't understand is the necessity of the wire. If it's purely symbolic, why can't the rule just be town limits or some such? Is there some religious law requiring a physical barrier of some sort? (Which I typed just as you were saying "Why can't the wires be imaginary.")
