I’m from Mississippi, and I didn’t know elephant ears could grow naturally in the woods there. 😮🌱🌳

That's awesome! Yep, wild elephant ears do grow naturally in parts of Mississippi, especially in wetter, more shaded areas. They really thrive along the Gulf Coast where it's warm and humid. It's pretty cool to see them in the wild!

If I was on the Mississippi gulf coast the first plant I’d be searching for is the Greenfly Orchid, Epidendrum conopseum. It’s the only epiphytic orchid native north of Florida.

I’ve been trying to propagate my money tree in soil for two weeks but after watching your video I switched it to water. Fingers crossed it works! I also took a cutting but the only leaf fell off do you think it will still root? And could you make a video on how you braid your money tree? I’d love to see the process!

Thanks for watching! Fingers crossed for your Money Tree-it should root in water with time! Even without the leaf, the cutting can still root, just keep the stem healthy. And I'll definitely add the braiding video to my list-stay tuned!

I have an Umbrella plant (tree) that is 17 years old. It was a plant from our youngest son's funeral. Its huge. I have had to chop the top off a few times as it was bent over reaching the ceiling. I propagated the tops each time and shared them with our other two sons, who are proudly growing "Ryan's plant" 8:07 . It survived neglect from my husbands ex, being moved across the state and town to town a couple times. It's a strong sturdy plant. I reccomend them highly. My next goal is a variegated one.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It's incredible how your Umbrella plant has become such a meaningful and enduring symbol of your son's memory. The fact that it's thrived through so much, including being propagated and shared with your other sons, shows just how resilient these plants can be. I’m sure Ryan’s plant will continue to grow strong in their care. A variegated Umbrella plant sounds like a beautiful next addition to your collection-I’m sure it’ll be just as special!

I hope I can ask a question on my money tree. My money tree started to have branches fall out. I didn't know I could of put them in water and re plant them. So I threw them away. But my money tree had 3 brown stems and all had leaves ahd green little branches. But they fell out and now just one stem has leaves. I don't know why he keeps loosing it's leaves and stems. I just hope it doesn't keep loosing more. Do you have any suggestions on how to help my money tree not loose all it's leaves? Hopefully you can answer my question.
@StevesPropagationCorner
@StevesPropagationCorner 10 күн бұрын
Thanks for reaching out! It sounds like your Money Tree might be stressed-overwatering, underwatering, or changes in light can sometimes cause leaf and stem loss. Check the soil to make sure it’s not too soggy or too dry, and ensure it’s getting bright, indirect light. Also, inspect the roots to see if there’s any rot. If there’s any mushy roots, you might need to repot it in fresh soil. Don’t worry, with some adjustments, your plant can bounce back! Feel free to ask if you need more tips!

Some plants grow in soils that have no nutrients in it. Such as carnivorous plants, I use peat moss and perlite mix for most of them. Mangroves grow in soils that are anaerobic but are nutrient rich. I've always mixed my own soils since it was cheaper in the long run except for orchid soils.
@StevesPropagationCorner
@StevesPropagationCorner Ай бұрын
That's a great point! Mixing your own soils can really make a difference, especially for unique plants like carnivorous ones. I've found that experimenting with different soil mixes is not only cost-effective but also a fun way to learn more about the specific needs of each plant.

What’s the best soil mixture for your money tree? I adopted 1 from a friend that’s about 4 foot tall. It’s struggled since I received it a year plus ago. It scraggly and tall! Loosing leafs regularly . I do get some baby leaves but.. She changed pots before I received! But it’s just always looking kinda sad!..

For your money tree, use a well-draining soil mixture, such as a blend of cactus soil and perlite. Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting in the soil. Water thoroughly, then let the soil dry out between waterings. Keep your plant in bright, indirect light, and consider adding a balanced liquid fertilizer every few months during the growing season. Repotting into fresh soil and trimming any leggy growth might also help rejuvenate your money tree.

How about growing a mangrove tree? They are tropical trees, but they need to be kept in water and the best part is that they can be grown in salt, fresh or brackish water. But get the propagule to acclimate them immediately or they will have to be acclimated slowly.

How do you save a money tree from rot? I have a small one that had a soft trunk so I chopped of the softened portion of the trunk. How long do I let it dry out before repotting? Will it survive in a chunky mix until the roots grow back? Please help
@StevesPropagationCorner
@StevesPropagationCorner 4 ай бұрын
To save your money tree from rot, let the cut portion dry out for 1-2 days until the cut surface is calloused. Then repot it in a chunky mix to ensure good drainage. It should survive and grow new roots in the chunky mix. Good luck!

You're welcome! Without roots, water sparingly to avoid rot-just enough to keep the soil slightly moist. Bottom watering is best, as it encourages new root growth.
