Hi there well done for getting it going 👏 I used to service one of these for a friend in the 80s. It was a very comfortable car to drive. I noticed when you lifted the distributor cap the centre spring was there but not the carbon Bush that attaches to it? Did you replace the distributor cap or is it still running on the spring? It was a common fault for the carbon Bush to wear away and fall out causing all sorts of problems. Have enjoyed the episode and have subscribed. Prefer older vehicles I have 30 year old van and wife has 26 year old golf. Cheers

@@rodneyperkins1057 thanks for watching, and happy to have you. I didnt replace spring and there was not Carbon brush, like on newer cars. This is one of the older models and Its running perfect. I just love this old cars cause you have to use brain to figure out faults instead pluging in OBD reader showing you all faults. I feel like guys are big kids and we never grow up when it comes to cars. Cars are big toys for us. I just feel for example my Tesla as well as all EVs wont be collectible, just because of batteries that has to be constantly charged. And there is no computers running it. Stay tuned for more cars.

If you really want to be special, look for the bolt on 4x4 conversion. Though in 4x2 they can go nearly anywhere.

I had a 126 as well - amazing, how roomy it is....make sure to grease the front - axle regularly, best : every week...otherwise, the steering becomes stiff and - worst case - blocks...the problem is, that the front - axle layout is more or less the same, as on the Fiat 500; with only one grease - nipple at the pivot....the grease escapes the " easy way " - and the other end would not get any fresh grease....and bolt and bushes resent that. Another problem is the vibration of the little two - cylinder....and they like to throw the bolts of the exhaust - outlet out, and destroy the threads at the same time....they can only be repaired once by using an M 10 - bolt. Very important : the " air - thermostat " to open the flap for cooling the engine ! If it does not work properly, the engine overheats. Bye - bye head - gasket. Having said that, it is still a very nice little car.

The Zastava Yugo is n o t a bad, not to mention " the worst " car - nothing but propaganda by Americans, who are too stupid to know better. It is nice to drive - and this Fiat - engine does not need any proof for its reliability. It is absolutely worth saving !

Oh, I love Trabants....you got a very nice one of the last series; new door - openers, EBZA ( electronic ignition ), new drive shafts and coil springs at the rear axle.... I hope to see it on the road soon ! By the way : make sure the little spring for the accelerator cable is n e w....if it snaps, the engine turns at full revs and you can only stop it with the petrol - tap...The carburettor BVF 28 H 1 - 1 ( which was originally fitted on this model ) - is not the best choice - a good old " HB " carburettor - and she purrs like a cat...GDR did not have plastic bottles. Duroplast is made of cotton wool - and incredibly resistant !

Nice Dyane ! ( type " AYA " ) There were two engines available, Dyane 4 = 435 cc, 21 h.p - and the Dyane 6, like yours, 32 h.p. Although she runs, inspect the chassis - if the steering becomes stiff it means the chassis bends and strains the steering - column. We reinforced the chassis just next to the four bolts of the steering - box - which is as well the front suspension.

Nice Seat - or Fiat - 850....my mate drove them until 2020...make sure the cross - member under the front transverse - leaf - spring is in good order and the fixation of the steering - box....they are always good for bad surprises. Apart from that, engine - parts are no problem ( same for wear - items ). This engine was still used in the first Fiat Pandas - but it turns the other way round, so you cannot use the distributor...

This is n o t a 1,1 l - engine...they have got the radiator at the front end, this is a 850 cc, radiator bolted to the steering - rack. Spare parts can be found very easily. 1.1 - versions are called " GTL " - type R 1128. These " plastic " petrol pumps are no good for nothing. To be on the safe side, you should have cleaned the petrol reservoir, they have got a plug to make this easy ( allen 6 mil ).

@@oldstarrestoration It is a pleasure. I have got a 1970 R4L as a van and many other cars. There are still many of them in France - and this engine is almost indestructible. I hope you rescue as many cars as you can - just as I did. The oval plate and a code, painted on the right - side inner wing, tells you all about the car....

My dad had a Renault 6 back in the 1970's, which is very much the same spec as the R4, with the quirky gear change and the big glass specimen bottle as an expansion tank for the coolant.

Ovaj ti je 45ica. Ima puno razlika sa 55ica. Imali smo dve 55ice pa mogu lako da primetim razlike. Chak i Yugo za Americhki nije bio isti kao taj za Yu pazar. Ali tamo se izgubio dok su ameri imali svoje shevrolete kadilake krajslere i josh mnogo vishe. Retko se tamo pojavi u neki auto otpad za neka smeshna cena. Kod nas eto ima ih josh sa neke cene oko 1000 i neshto eura za "dobar" primerak.

@oldstarrestoration To je lepa ideja. Retro rent a car. Mene su tako pozvali da vozim na jedna svadba. A u Pariz moze da se iznajmi Spachek i Dijana sa + - njihovi shofer. Za papiri je muka. Neretko su bacili a auto josh dobar. Neko mi je rekao da moze se dobiti nove papire kod Notar i MUPa ali da se mnogo cheka i da koshta malo vishe.

Dobar si auto nashao. Josh ne mogu da verujem da si je nashao na otpad. Ko li je uopshte bacio ovaj auto?! Lepa je, pali, vozi. Potrebno joj je sregjivanje da bi bila u top stanje, ali se moze voziti i ovako svaki dan. Jedno pitanje: Dali si mozda chlan Citroen Forum Srbije? Ja jesam. Imam 2cv6 Spachek iz '73 godishte, znam puno o Spacheke i Dijane a na forum se i lepo druzimo i uvek saznajemo neshto novo. Pozdrav. Zanimljuva informacija o Dyane: nastala je kao auto koj sa malo noviji dizajn trebala da parira Renault 4 katrica. Iz danashnog aspekta rekao bih da je Dijana mlagja sestra Spacheka.

@@oliverpetroski4205 neces verovati kakve automobile sam video da ljudi donose na otpad. Imam drugove po Srbiji koji mi javljaju ako ima neki interesantan auto koji je otkupljen. Pa ih ja castim. Nisam clan grupe ali moracu da se pridruzim.

Katrica je zanimljiv auto. Nashao si primerak koj se moze srediti. Jedan moj prijatelj je kupio jednu i kaze da ima puno delova za njih i da nisu skupi. Jedino moze biti skupo ako auto trazi mnogo toga da se zameni ili popravi. Oldtajmer koj se moze voziti svaki dan. Planiram i ja da kupim jedan samo shto ja trazim jedan model sa aluminiumska maska i okrugli zmigavci ako mogu takav da nagjem. A lepi su i oni plavi kasniji modeli sa kremasta maska i lajsne. Vozio sam se u jedan. Udobnost je blizu kao na Spachek. A Katrica ima snazniji motor i brzi je od Spacheka.

Assembled in Slovenia? I had a 1963 R4 which was assembled in Australia. The seats in an R4 are more comfortable than those in most modern cars. You have a good idea to save simple cars with small engines.

Possibly my favorite car of all. It ticks every box: Perfectly roomy for 4, with a decent trunk. Performance is "sufficient". Flexibility and practicality of the hatchback and 4 doors.. Simple reliable engine that can be fixed at home, Great fuel economy. Comfortable seats. Apart from the body roll, great handling and grip. And a superb ride that laughs at potholes and speedbumps. Compare with the Fiat 500, the Mini, the Morris Minor, the Citroen 2CV, the Beetle, the Trabant: They all lack some attribute that is present in the R4. The R4 is the optimum "economy car".

@ The van and pick up versions at the time were 7 cwt for standard 11 cwt for the long wheel base. The equivilant Ford Escort vans of the time were 5cwt load. Also you has a flap front and back which could be raised and long loads like ladders or wood slid in under the roof. I'd have a proper Renault 4 back in a heart beat

Actually the engine and transmission are mounted 'the wrong way'. Distribution chain is near the firewall. Also the eniges you mentioned: The 1289cc engine wasn't standard althouygh the (rare) 954 cc engine was. The 845 base engine was an Billancourt engine, developed after WW2. The later engines are Cléon engines. Developed in the sixties. Liked and subbed!

Ey man! I actualli own a same type of trabi in the Netherlands... Also a 601 universal in the same color as youre's!... Make her great again! And haha its made out of duroplast nothing plastic about that... Its cottonfibre with somesort of hardener... :p Hope to see a New video on the trabi soon and going to follow youre progress! Hello Rob, thanks for support, i really appreciate. Your car is also another automotive classic. Mercedes spent over £600 million researching and developing the W201. I’m also a fan of them, especially 2.3 and 16v which is already iconic.

I just don’t think that electric cars will be the future for collectors. Old cars you can fired up 20 years later. Not the case for the electric car.
