Like any place,it's got it's pros and cons. Personally, I live outside of Louisville and I'm much happier than I was when I lived in the city. A lot of drama there that I can do without. Tons of dining options for just about anything you want. The cost of living here is not too bad. An average home without excessive amenities will run you about 300k to 400k. You can get homes under that mark. There's some beautiful countryside,and most people that I come across are very friendly. Utilities seem to go up every year like clockwork. Taxes are definitely a thing here. I'd recommend doing a deep dive into that. Population is very diverse. One annoying thing is that if you shop big box stores,be prepared to come across associates that don't speak English. Not saying that they're bad people by any means, but getting help requires google translate quite often. Political polarization is evident. If you bring that up,there's a lot of very strong opinions on either side.

@gingerschultz3258 I'm a working class man. I don't own fancy cars,boats, or planes, but I do ok. Kentucky is a "red state". The political climate varies depending on where you're at. Cities tend to be liberal whereas the areas outside of the cities tend to be conservative. You get a lot more house for your dollar outside of town,but there are fewer places to go and things to do. A lot depends on who you are and what you want. Kentucky has everything from plush, ritzy neighborhoods to low income housing. I've been here for most of my life and it's home for me. Weather can be brutal at times. Heavy snow is rare,but we just had a significant snow (6-8 inches) coupled with heavy icing. Summers can be very humid and hot. Heat indices over 100 are fairly common in July and August. Spring and fall are typical gorgeous. We do get the occassional tornado, so I'd recommend a house with a basement.

It varies person to person. For instance, my wife gets hit hard by allergies in the Spring and Fall whereas I don’t feel the effects at all. If you are someone that deals with allergies it will probably affect you more.

I go to a shooting range in southern Kentucky. For several weeks before hunting season, they were all over the place. One doe even sauntered across the range. But about 2 weeks before the season started, they all disappeared for some reason. I guess they have it marked on their calendars. LOL

Let’s not forget about the skunks. They are everywhere, all the time.😮
