TGIF~! Nice parade of hits~!! I've seen cards that have mold and swelling from probable storage in a musty garage with freezing winters - these almost look as if they've just been heated up a few times. No mold culturing, and apparent liquidized gum damage. I'd bet these were stored outside of Phoenix, as opposed to outside Detroit. I like the design, harkens back to the 1979 cards with that lovely shade of blue, although there's something about the design that seems to highlight the left/right centering deficiencies, and those cuts do not highlight one of Canada's finer softwood products lol.
@jimfree015 сағат бұрын
Bonus that biggest hits happened geographically farthest away from gum as possible.
@WayBackSportsCards15 сағат бұрын
You might be right about the storage. It’s like the gum liquefied at some point to cause sticking at the bottom. But there wasn’t any mold on the gum or any moldy odors. The design is solid, but yes it makes off centered cards a lot more obvious. And to your second point, luckily the best cards survived the sticky stuff! Thanks for watching and have a great weekend!

Don’t get me wrong, the cards I pulled look great. I just wish I pulled at least one rare card or a bigger name on the serial numbered cards.
@ehrenkrause98613 күн бұрын
I just opened up 20 blaster boxes of 2023 series one. Got a couple autos but actually it was really disappointed. Everybody said it was actually a good checklist and a good set but nothing but a couple of autographs but nothing notable from a star or Hall of famer. That's my sentiment what I quit back in 1991
@WayBackSportsCards3 күн бұрын
What autograph did you pull?
@ehrenkrause98613 күн бұрын
@WayBackSportsCards I'll have to dig into the box, but nobody I've heard of. Rookie auto. The nice thing, there on card signatures. I did pull a Michael grove 21/25 I think camo? Can't find anything on it.
@t.o.4084 күн бұрын
That was rough. I've got one of these Costco bundles coming my way and now I'm wishing I hadn't spent the $90. It's supposed to also come with a factory set and a blaster box in addition to the two boxes you opened, so hopefully I can squeeze some value out of it. The saddest thing about your boxes was I think your best card (Gunnar Stars of MLB Chrome RC) might have come out of the first pack you ripped. It was all downhill from there...
@WayBackSportsCards3 күн бұрын
Yeah I got the same factory set and blaster box too. The factory set has a 1:3 chance of being all parallels, but at those odds, the cards still aren’t rare. And unfortunately I didn’t hit anything from the blaster box. I just didn’t include those in this video.
@WayBackSportsCards3 күн бұрын
Luckily it’s only $90 and not more. Rip it and have some fun with it. My advice is just to keep your expectations within reason.

2023 was way overproduced. There is a ton of it on shelves and we are in 2025. Early predictions suggest 2025 Topps Series I is mass produced as well based on the almost impossible odds to pull any numbered cards from retail.
@WayBackSportsCards4 күн бұрын
100% agree - Costco selling $99 packages with multiple 2023 Topps boxes tells you everything you need to know. I was still hoping to pull something with a slightly lower SN or longer odds. In the end it was just very disappointing.
@WayBackSportsCards4 күн бұрын
And I think you might be right about 2025. Time will tell. Although I’m tempted to buy a box, but if I do it’s gonna be the Jumbo Pack box.
@uwone77784 күн бұрын
I've opened a couple of cases of series 2, but only Jumbo's. Every other platform will disappoint you. Jumbo's can be had for less than $150 a box, but gives you the best odds of pulling anything decent.

Definitely agree. I’m tempted to pick up some 2025 when it comes out next week. If I do, it’s gonna be a jumbo pack box. I post the video here if that happens.

Pre 2020 all the stuff from that era were $10/boxand couldn’t move anything. You just never know. And if you’re interested in building it that box should have you close to a complete set. Maybe it is complete. I built this in 1992 at 11 years old. Was worthless for decades. Now it’s a $25-40 set. And technically speaking it is vintage now.

That '81 Donruss Vern Ruhle is actually an error card they never corrected. The photo is really of his teammate Ken Forsch. Donruss was known mostly for non-sports cards at that time. The prices on those Topps Kirk Gibson rookie cards are ridiculous considering he'll probably never make the Hall of Fame. It's part of why I stopped collecting in the '90s. Investors were making it totally about money and it ceased to be a hobby for me and a lot of other folks too.
