It's hard to beat a jazz bass when it comes to getting a good slap tone. But It sounds like you have that Sire strung with some nickel wound strings.

Sounds pretty good, but everything that was played in this demo could have been played on a 6 string. There’s no showcase of how the lower register sounds on those pickups.

If you’re new to East preamps, I would be sure to verify if your model is a Flat freq response or preshape filter curve.. As well as if your bass knob is cut/boost or boost only.. **It comes with a bass center detent in both, Which may cause you to think it’s “flat” in the center. When in fact it’s actually boosting bass quite a bit! John East is an absolute genius! My J-Retro Dlx took my J-bass from good to freaking epic!! I’ve also got a Uni-Pre in an MTD that’s aces, And next will be an MMSR.. I only wish they weren’t quite so pricey (About 355-415$ shipped for US customers!) 400$ 3x is a hefty 1200$ USD! But there’s no equal, They’re CRAZY versatile.. And despite the multiple different possible internal adjustments & controls, Sound incredible no matter how it’s set!!

These are great guitars. Construction and materials are all top notch. I cringed when I saw you spray the Deoxit on the pots all over the top. My only complaint about my varnish model is how sensitive to cleaners and how fragile the finish is. The shop I bought mine from used a guitar polish on it and it didn't go over too well with the varnish. I dripped some fretboard conditioner on the finish and that didn't go over too well. I now use plain water to wipe mine down.
