It wouldn't really be building an entire game around it, but seeing the setting tutned up quite high makes me think this would make for a very good distortion effect, perhaps as the visual component of some status effect or debuff.

make a horror game where the monster is only visible when it moves

That looks pretty cool, in the TPS demo the ship's exhaust reminds me of a thermal imaging camera :)

Fascinating. Most likely outside the scope of what anyone in this comment section is familiar with but in case there's one person out there who happens to understand the physiological reasons for this, Does this mean that our brains are temporarily memorizing the equivalent of millions of pixels for a fraction of a second and comparing that with the next video frame or are our eyes doing all the processing before the difference image reaches the brain? If it's the former, what is the average retention time is and is anyone capable of doing it for several seconds between frames?

Wow this is great. Can you do an 18+ game so that I can pause it when someone walks in on me?

How does it work? I know it must be reliant on movement for it to disappear once paused, but how exactly do you achive that?
@tentavision134 сағат бұрын
how long did it take you to make this

I actually really like the idea of using this on a platformer, where maybe the camera is permanently centered around the player, so that you can always see the platforms while you're moving, but it's hard to sit still and plot your next move because the terrain disappears while you're stationary

simply use screen recorders and screen-to-gif programs to capture any given instant. as long as you have two frames of the thing moving or changing, you can capture it effectively like a screenshot

You could make a horror game where you are inn a dark forest with a motion sensing camera, this is your only way to detect anything more than 1 foot in front of you. The motion sensing camera could use this effect to spot moving plants, or enemies.

this might be nice for a game where you're a bat. I know the effects aren't the same, but it'd help convey that the sense isn't 'vision.'
@Cristian.Carlos9210 сағат бұрын
I’ve seen motion extraction. But seeing without the difference layer, it’s difficult to catch if they’re moving just slightly. And it is used to detect how a human’s heart beats and detecting conditions early, then it is amplified to observe more differences. Really fascinating. I’ll check it out
