KZbin has the knack of shoving something you don't enjoy in your face. I don't enjoy this metronomic rendering, not least because of the uninspired orchestra and dutiful conducting. Playing Chopin requires a subtle give and take, some microhesitations and minute gradations in dynamics. In the next few years, Deni will learn these. Generations of pedaogues insisting on practising even scales and arpeggios are probably responsible for the music box-like tone. As is often the case, one os bowled over by the composer rather than the performer. Chopin wrote this at the age of 18 and performed it around the age of 20. Dani is brilliant in his own way, and there are many moments of outstanding beauty that leave an indelible impression. A promising artist in the making.

Superb Ondine.

The precision, clarity, and grasp of the long line and overall structure is extremely impressive. This is a rather Russian approach, and is probably how Rachmaninov would play it. As musical as it already is, one can anticipate a more mature performance in 10 years' time. There will be more half tones, mystery and storytelling. I love the way he played the opening so precisely and clearly, toccato-like, but it is meant to be faster, lighter and less regular, creating a shimmering effect. As said before, there will be more storytelling and poetry in years to come.

I am completely blown away by this performance. Whatever one may feel about the country's actions under the present leadership, it is certainly producing a crop of young musicians that are among the most talented I have ever heard. We can only hope that these young performers can continue to make unbelievable music in an atmosphere of peace and cooperation.
