What people don’t understand is that this verse contrasts the adulterous woman with the ideal woman. In scripture the adulterous woman was always God‘s people going astray. So the proverbs 31 woman is the opposite of the adulterous woman. She upholds her marriage vows Because she loves the king. This is about the Church corporately- it was never meant to be a single woman . Bathsheba as Solomon ‘s mother if this is the one giving advice, she committed adultery with David. She as Queen oversaw her household as they carried out God’s will. Solomon took many wives and concubines and he did this for foreign relations. He would marry these women to keep peace. This is a type and shadow of Christ who would later marry the Gentiles to bring all the nations into the covenant firming one new BRIDE/WIFE. If people could understand that this is never meant to be a single woman. This was always about the church working together, collectively in the ministry of reconciliation then it would make a lot of sense.

My last comment is that, gold digging needn’t be a concern for any man who has none. Usually transactional relations evolve out of a wealthy man’s desire to buy arm candy with benefits… so I find it problematic that the conversation places a level of owness on women taking advantage of men in a world where sex exploitation is the common denominator for men. I don’t think women need men to police how they chose to enter relationships. However, iron sharpens iron, and I think men should be providing guidance to men on how to show up with integrity in the rare occasion they show up at all.

I also wish black men would stop skipping over the part of the conversation where they acknowledge all of the spiritual, emotional, physical, and mental labor that has been done historically on their behalf by black women. It seems like there is never a level of appreciation demonstrated towards women who are constantly on the front line of the community. Also, there are certain tasks women are simply designed to perform. I’m not understanding how this concept can be negotiated in terms of gender roles, so the idea that a man can be comfortable being materially taken care of by his woman is simply not acceptable if family, AND her well-being are truly priorities.

It is irresponsible for a man to pursue a relationship with a woman if he is has no job. Being able to provide security for a family is a basic standard a man should meet. Women take on all of the risk of pregnancy, emotional labor, and single mothering which is the dominant family orientation in our community. We have a shortage of men who are sexually disciplined, family focused, and spiritually aligned. Making less than his woman is the least of the problems crippling romantic relationships, in my opinion. Typically it is black women holding the bag in terms of family responsibility on all fronts, yet many black mens approach romantically is that we need to submit to them. Up is down and left is right.

Wow, what a powerful and timely message. It was so refreshing to be reminded that while many of us are grinding and chasing after worldly goods at any minute the Lord could say “ thou fool, tonight thy soul will be required of thee then whom will those things belong to”. For as you pointed out, each of us shall one day have our “stuff”:addressed as “ the estate of…”However should we put the same efforts into collecting Kingdom Currency as we do earthly money we’ll leave this earth a much better place. For as Dr King who you admire once said “ On that great getting up morning, it ain’t gonna matter if you went to Morehouse or Nohouse, but what did you do for others”. Thank you Pastor Davis for those encouraging words and I pray the Lord continue to utilize you in this manner such that we are challenged to pause and reflect on how Christ would have us to live our lives. Knick

My brother Demetrius, grace and peace to you and your church family. I was led to this page by my sister yesterday morning and saw your sermon. I would love for you to consider something to ponder. You used the story of Jesus and Nicodemus and how Jesus told him he needed to be born again to enter into the kingdom to make your point of America needing to be born again. But have you considered that nowhere in scripture does it say that systems and or governments can be born again and or saved? Plainly speaking, only people can be born again. This situation is specifically talking about a salvation issue, and when Jesus came preaching the Kingdom to offer salvation to man, He intentionally left the governing systems alone (Matthew 22:20-22). The Lord doesn’t save systems but He saves people in the systems, and by His sovereignty He can use those people to make change in those systems, or not. My brother, please be careful with this kind of reading into the text as it leads Christians away from total dependency on God, and could possibly make them have false hope in a system that is clearly under the rulership of the god of this world, satan. And also consider that God uses the devil as a tool of chastisement, like He did with Jesus in the wilderness and with Job. So who’s to say that He’s not using the devil in this wicked government system to test, chasten and sanctify us believers here in this idolatrous nation? There’s so many ways we can look at this, but i beg you to please look at every situation with humility, knowing that God is sovereign and is ALWAYS in control. Lastly, God gives us His remedy for this wicked unjust governing system, which is a final defeat of the god of this world and by setting up a new system. See Revelation 20 & Revelation 22: 1-5. Lord let your Kingdom come! Here is a blog I thought was a pretty solid biblical take on government. www.crossroads.net/media/articles/what-i-think-the-bible-says-about-government Be blessed my bro.
