Hello Rich what a man you need some lights on the back of the cab now lol my old man drove a 400 Cummins with a Eaton twin splitter in an strato cruiser plated at 80 tonnes it now sits in Cambria she was an old G regs man and that was a wagon mate

@ I wonder what the locals made of it, I turned a few heads in Carisio but probably more out of curiosity rather than jealousy… 🤦🏻‍♂️ BTW, I later had a 113 Topline in Europe and there was no more room in that than the ERF. In fact the under bunk storage on the EC11 was miles better 👍

My first driving school for C+E never bothered to mention the retarder, maybe there are less hills in Mansfield than Sheffield, or brakes are cheaper.

A Leyland bus fitter told me that the Sheffield bus fleet was the first to be fitted with retarders because of the hilly nature of the city, don’t know if it’s true but seemed to make sense at the time…..

@@markbowler8091 Mansfield is certainly flatter, but one of the test routes had a long tight downhill section where a wise driver would supplement their brakes with a retarder, you could only really get down it by dragging your side mirrors through the shrubbery, shame they didnt mention it.

@@heavy_low_n_slow not easy alone i know .i wirked at the company schwarzmüller ( a trailer builder company ) and i was built special and heavy haulege trailers. i had to bild a special semi trailer that had 2.5 m base witdth and had 5 steered axles . it was a single extendable semi lowloader . the door at the end of the assembly line was 2.55 m wide . it took us 3 h to get it out cus we had to do a turn because it was 18 m long that was soo stupid. a 5 axle trailer that is 18 m long with 14 m loading floor + 10 m extendable. is quite insane.
