I have a Daphne in a very large pot that is over 20 years old. I also have the white daphne and the Eternal fragrance which was given to me in 2012. My micro climate is a valley in the Wellington Range behind Hobart. We get frosts down to -8 and summers up to 41.

Is it possible to use azalea fertilizer as a general fertilizer? I have 2 containers and will never use it all, so want to use one of them for general use on plants.

What a lovely garden! The pink Crape Myrtle brightens up the garden! I love Crape Myrtle too and have grown several. My favorite is the color With Love Eternal. Today I ordered a Crape Myrtle with dark leaves for the first time! I chose white flowers.

My crepe myrtle has flowered for the first time and is gorgeous. I want to keep it manageable with branches coming from about head height. As there is no ‘apple’ (I think that’s what you called it) yet I am not confident where to cut this years branches. Do I just start pruning at the head height that I mentioned?

I LOVE these trees and wish that I could have them but alas I live in zone 6 which means they can't handle our cold temps. Even the garden centers here don't have them because even in an unheated greenhouse, they don't survive. Sad but true.

I don't like them when they've been pruned. They are not as pretty in the winter when they had been pruned. I put mine where it has plenty of room to grow so it never has to be pruned

Can you grow c Camellia from seed?
@thegreenerygardenhome8828
@thegreenerygardenhome8828 Жыл бұрын
It is possible to grow Camellias from seed however it is a long process. After Camellias have finished flowering in winter they will start producing seed pods. Once these seed pods have dried out over the following months (they will start to form cracks on the surface of the pod) the seed can be collected, planted into seed raising mix and placed outside in a warm spot. Keep this mix damp. After germination the plants will need to be gradually potted up as they grow. This is a long process and the plant can take between 8 to 15 years to flower. The flowers will generally not be true to the parent plant - they may be a different colour shade or a different flower shape.

Can you grow Camilla sinensis in Melbourne in part shade thanks
@thegreenerygardenhome8828
@thegreenerygardenhome8828 Жыл бұрын
Hello, Camellia sinensis, or the tea plant, grows very well in part shade in Melbourne. It prefers a cooler climate and Melbourne’s autumns and winters are excellent for this plant. Dappled shade is best, not deep shade, to ensure good flowering. This position also protects the plant against harsh summer sun or winter frosts. Make sure the garden bed has good drainage. Keep moist during summer. Camellia sinensis is often grown as a hedging plant in Melbourne or as a shrub of 1-2 metres high and wide. It’s also lovely to grow in a pot, especially is a shaded courtyard.

Hi there. I moved my camellia a year ago for construction and it survived but links leggy and the leaves aren't dark and glossy as they once were. It's probably 3 to 4 m tall. Can I cut it back now and fertilise? Or do I need to wait till the end of winter? I'm just worried with this hot weather it's not keeping up the water. Thank you.
@thegreenerygardenhome8828
@thegreenerygardenhome8828 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, It is fine to cut back your Camellia now. Prune it quite hard - ideally prune the plant back by one third. This will allow the plant to put on excellent root growth, and ensure future growth is more compact and not leggy looking. After pruning water the plant deeply, then apply an All Purpose Plant food or a Camellia and Azalea food (following the application rates and instructions on the pack).

Hello, I grow camellias on the balcony of my I grow camellias on the balcony. in winters the minimum temperature of the plant content is about 6-8 C. Is it not enough for proper cultivation? Thank you
@thegreenerygardenhome8828
@thegreenerygardenhome8828 Жыл бұрын
Hi there, Camellias prefer a difference in seasonal temperatures between warm and cold, so a cool winter temperature is ideal, and 6 - 8 degrees is fine. When watering make sure it is a deep watering, and fertilise with an All Purpose Plant food or a Camellia and Azalea food.
