Based on my ownership experience with the Mazda CX I would probably go with the Subaru even though it's pig ugly.

To be honest the Subaru is too ugly, but I own a Mazda cx-60 top line 3.3 petrol, all options, bought it in Dec 2023, so less than 6 months old. Dangerous car, lane assist is intrusive and fights with you at every opportunity. Can be tuned off but not disabled so every restart puts it back in full operating mode. Suspension is super harsh, the whole boot space jumps into the air on some bumps, boot latch rattles constantly, currently have a temp fix of tape around the striker plate to reduce the noise, driver recognition fails around 70% of the time and leaves you 10cm away from the pedals each time it fails. Speed recognition fails on certain speeds, 90km comes back as 30, 50 or 80. 130 comes back as 120. Windows steam up occasionally for no reason, leave the car and come back and it's 10 mins before you can drive away to dentist the windows (all of them). Phone charge point is intermittent, constantly causes my phone to beep on and off as charging fails. No other device I charge with has this issue. Already one buckled wheel, never had a wheel buckle in over 40 years of driving. The doors feel flimsy, like paper when you close them. No weight or feel to the doors, doesn't feel like an upmarket $60,000 car.

The specs don't matter. What matters is how easy it is to replace the starter and water pump in the middle of nowhere. A socket set and a bag of common tools should be all you need. If the water pump and starter are easy then usually everything else is easy.
