@18:03 Sorry Pat, you can get ransom or malware just from going to a malicious website via a deceptive link, button, image etc. or a compromised legitimate site that IS the site you were looking for. Since they do take sponsored game deals, it is also possible for Castle Super Beast to be mislead into downloading some bad “game” software. Stay frosty, overconfidence is a slow and insidious killer.

Searching the internet from the start menu can be dangerous as well as convenient - results have been manipulated by search engine optimization. A recent malware variant was being installed along with Teams because the bad version of the teams download page was showing up as the #1 result in people’s start menus. If you downloaded & installed teams via the start menu in the last month consider hunting for malware.

😂 so true. The latest patch finally made copy rename delete and paste at the top of the context (right click) menu again. The windows 10 stuff is still there, but it takes 1-3 extra clicks to find it. (If you already know where to look)

This was so cathartic, I displayed extension type, hidden files, and had a Cloud cursor. Win amp skin (one of the defaults) and custom wallpaper with a gap for my icons to show up better. VLC forever. Only a couple custom icons, so I could have gone deeper.

5:35 I'm on linux (pop os) with the gnome desktop environment and the first customisation I added was something called "Run Cat", it just shows a cat running whenever the CPU is in use and it goes to sleep when the CPU is idle

Its part of a bigger problem on windows. When you enable file extensions on file names, it also opens up the option to edit said file extension, and some novice users may accidentaly change the extension too while trying to edit the file name rendering useless (which is also kinda dumb). Windows sometimes have such dumb functionality that they kept just because its legacy. Like how there is still two entirely different device managers and control panels still in Windows 11 🫠

The few legacy stuff they still have (like the classic control panel) can't easily be rid of. They're basically ingrained into the code, even when they make settings that effectively do the same things, they're just shortcuts. MS wants to change them but I think they said it'll make upgrading between Windows versions more difficult than it already is.

According to Thor in a short on the Pirate Software channel, he was watching kids at a convention go up to the demo kiosk for an unreleased game, move the controller at the station out of the way because they *did not know what it was*, and try to put their hands on the screen. We're in for a weird one.
