The West Australians made disc conversion units for the Duncan tyne seed drills. The disc units don't fit in front of the Duncan tyne drill tyres but fit the other positions on the drill. The seed drops between the discs rather than maybe getting blocked by soil in the bottom of the seed drill boot. If empty rates are low should be no problem with short season of breeding
@kiwifarmerpete524614 күн бұрын
Don’t totally agree with you on breeding infertility, you could be killing off some of your best producing cows just because somethings gone wrong and they haven’t got in calf in first couple cycles. More production pays the bills not in calf cows. An early calving cow doing 1.7ms now will soon get passed on production by a one doing 2.3ms calving 6 weeks later
@FamilyFarmingandFun13 күн бұрын
@@kiwifarmerpete5246 I get your point, but to me any empty cow is a good cow they just didn’t get in calf. We only had 10.5% empty, I know of other farmers having high empty rate doing longer matings. So I don’t think I’m losing any more good cows than any other farmer. I find it really hard to put my thought in to words I would love to catch up for a talk one day. I’m not really understanding the last part to your answer early cow only producing 1.7?
@kiwifarmerpete524613 күн бұрын
@@FamilyFarmingandFun what I was trying to say is an early calving cow producing less than average production now will soon get passed in total production by a good late calving cow that produces well, I run a totally different system to you and I understand everyone does things and thinks about things differently. I had a cow last year that calved 2nd Oct and still did well over 600ms - glad I didn’t cull her
@FamilyFarmingandFun13 күн бұрын
@@kiwifarmerpete5246 yep my dad says every farmer is right. So if you could get a cows like that to calve earlier they could do more production?
@jamieobrien973712 күн бұрын
From my experience late calving cows end up being either late again or empty so getting cows in calf early is the name of the game they need time before mating to recover, just my opinion 👍
@jamieobrien973714 күн бұрын
100% agree with you in regards to breeding infertility, oad milking definitely takes the pressure off the girls and helps with getting cows back in calf, love your guys system so simple but effective and efficient, living the dream 🤙

Incidentally (I have just replaced mine) in order to remove the PTO Bearing (@6:20) instead of using a 3 legged puller, I made longer Bolts for the 2 additional holes in the Bearing carrier (Where you have placed 2 Bolts... 12 o'clock & 6 o'clock) and steadily wound those in equally & finally gave the PTO shaft a light tap & the Bearing came away (Matter of a couple of minutes) Just figured it may be of use to either yourself or others? 👍👍
