I was there in Sept last year.I agree about the food it could be better.I am surprised you didn't show their Kudeta district which was our favorite place there.
Жыл бұрын
At the time of filming in December 2021, Kudetah District was closed as it was around that time that more tourist destinations in the Philippines were reopening but not everything was open or available. Otherwise, I would have covered it on one or two of the nights I took it easy at Fairways.

Buko pie I think is a cultural experience... So if you frequent Tagaytay City growing up.. you will buy Buko Pie every time you visit Tagaytay.. and among all the brands I have tasted being sold in Tagaytay.. Platefully is the best one.
Жыл бұрын
Oh for sure, most people gravitate around the food they're nostalgic for. I suppose for us, we were used to having dry, bland buko pies growing up in the States and it's why when we tried a really good buko pie, we didn't think it was world shattering. That said, the Platefuly buko pie was fantastic and the pastry work was truly amazing as well as the texture of the buko remained firm and not dry. The minced meat pies are not to be missed either!

Yeah it can be. Bella Vita is in between the main town and the resorts on the southern side of El Nido (Las Cabanas / Marimegmeg). We were well north of El Nido town (closer to the airport) as a nice resort called Charlie's and the tricycle ride took around 25-30 minutes. Because it was three of us, we'd have to get out of the tricycle when we went up this big rise so it could get over the hill, hahaha That said, Bella Vita has amazing pizza and is still the best we've tried in the Philippines. (I haven't tried Crosta Pizza in Makati yet as of this writing though which I hear is the best)

Is it a private island Sir? It's near mainland el nido, why is it not part of the tours?
Жыл бұрын
Might be a private island and that could be the reason it's not part of the tours but basically, Tours A, B, C, and D are usually preset across all the tour companies in El Nido. When we went in January 2022 (during Omicron) and nobody else was around, we talked our tour guides into taking us to the secret places most tourists don't know about in El Nido.

My group is not satisfied at all. Went last Thursday. Did not find anything fresh--not the lobster, not the lechon (no crispy skin!), not the bulalo, not anything! Even the cut fruits taste old. Thought they were all left overs from previous nights. Guys, lower your expectations!
Жыл бұрын
I went a second time on my birthday which fell on a weeknight. It was good, not as amazing as that Saturday night I went. I was more impressed by the lechon and the carved meats than I was on the unlimited lobster.

Sorry Hawker Chan lost its Michelin Star in Singapore and has never had one at the location you visited, so totally wrong title
Жыл бұрын
Well, for SEO reasons and because Hawker Chan is still touted as the world's cheapest Michelin star meal here in the Philippines, I still listed it as such. Michelin star or not, Hawker Chan is one of the better casual dining values I've found in the Philippines still.

Shark Fin Soup my favourite soup. Without the soup, Chinese Banquet dinner don't work. Yes order many dishes, symbolise abundance and take home Leftover symbolise overflow from abundance. Westerners should enjoy the food in quiet. Chinese table manners, eat in silent so you can enjoy the food and not disturb other people enjoying eating their food from the table.

I went through a trusted fixer with connections in sourcing export grade Malaysian Musang King durian. They can also get AA and AAA grade but as you'd expect they're hard to source and are incredibly expensive. I've also gotten red prawn and D24 durian from them as well.

Can I get the list of ingredients used in English? I only understand the lemon grass. Any English speaker that can help, I will really appreciate. Thanks.
Жыл бұрын
Sure, I'll try my best. The "lemongrass" used are actually two type indigenous relative types of lemongrass - and forgive the misspelling if any as it's from Ilocano (I can understand Tagalog but Ilocano, not so well) - called baraniw and alagaw. They taste like lemongrass but they taste a little more minty / menthol. The rest is straightforward: oyster sauce, salt, pepper / pimenta, and Fundador light brandy, a Spanish brandy popular in the Philippines (I specify the brand here because the taste will be different if you use for example, Emperador Double Light instead). Hope that helps. :)

Hello, how was their charges? Are there any hidden charges or you paid exactly what you expected?
Жыл бұрын
About expected. It was Christmas time and so inevitably the accommodation was more expensive but this was during a pandemic when they were only allowing fully vaccinated people and so it wasn’t necessarily sky high: probably 9-10k pesos ($180-200 US) a night after taxes. Because I’m Hilton Honors gold, I got an upgraded room at no charge on the highest floor. We splurged at Hua Yuan, the Christmas Eve buffet, and ordered room service a couple of times, so it was a pretty expensive staycation but well worth it.

Too bad the lobster is blanched. Years ago it used to be "fresh". Thumbs up for informative and clear vlog. I find it so annoying when people just vlog themselves stuffing their face. Instead tiu correctly focus on the food and appropriate dialog.
Жыл бұрын
The lobster was still good, just that they’re not just super fresh but also a bit small. For Boston or Maine lobster they have to be the “just right” size for it to be succulent. Finestra at Solaire has slightly larger for their Sunday brunch buffet and hence are better. Thank you for the kind words, I try to be as thorough and honest too, so that when something is truly amazing, you’ll definitely know. Just my opinion of course.
