Very interested.. I own a 1997 bmw f650 funduro .. a modified version of my bike called the f650 RR won 1st place of the Dakar rally in 1999 of the 650cc class i would like a rally tower as an option.. to be able to line up with all factory tank bolts as the headlight fairing bolts to the tank.. I guess I should draw up some ideas but none the less you have got my wheels turning for ideas

was the pushrod spacer giving you any trouble? i cant seem to get mine all the way in so the pressure plate can fully engage

Looks good, although I do have some questions..... Can you fit this tower with a safari tank? Also, every one knows how dismal the stock alternator output is pretty weak at only 200W, what is the current draw of the headlight+ spotlight? Do you need to put a high output (250W) alternator in?? Apart from those small queries, looks good, I want one

Mi Drz400e is hard to start and back fires once and while . But once warm it runs fine would you say maybe check the values are in spec thanks

I use a ratchet strap to get the carb back in. Taking it out is just a matter of disconnecting throttle cables etc, twosting sideways and pulling it out. I added a clip in one of my vids but will make another one showing the process. As far as metal parts- replace them. The cost of a new part (and seals) is way cheaper than trying to fix it without machining, and is the cost of owning a bike. With the service manual, you can strip the engine completely and rebuild it. Just follow their instructions. I recently resolved a hard start issue by replacing the cam lift shims. The timing chain didn't match the manual as well so I was reluctant to correct it. I eventually went by the manual specs, put the bike back and holy cow the thing ru s so much better. Trust the manual. KZbin is good to understand the procedures, but you need to follow the specs.

Most other markets/countries have a different carb on the S model, the CV vacuum carb. if you don't rejet after opening the air box it will run bad. JD or Dynojet, the needle being the critical thing. Or fit the FCR carb ;)

If the big decal wouldn't stick them why would some smaller decals ? I have the 25 litre Safari tank on my T7 and wanted to make up for the decals I already had on the standard tank but know from MX experience that plastic tanks weep fuel (as do many fuel bladders) so would very likely not work. I've learned to live with it.

Great video. I have the Keihin FCR-MX39 which is fantastic. One thing to note is if I went to a bigger tank I wouldn't be able to reach the choke, it's even hard now as it is! But I have the SM model so I'll stick with the stock tank. Also if you do the 3X3 plus a full exhaust system and Keihin carb look up the jetting. I took my bike to Dynoverks and they jetted it for me. 40hp at the rear tyre isn't near the European motards but it's enough to have a lot of fun without reliability issues. Also, a lithium battery is a great addition for the DRZ. The battery sits up high at the back of the bike and the stock battery feels like a 6 pack of beer where a lithium battery feels like a pack of cigarettes.
