Unfortunately it is not. Still have the truck, just parked due to age.

We're so spoiled now. A 318 Detroit only was putting out 860 ft/lbs of torque and making things happen. The Volvo I drive has 455 hp and 1850 ft/lbs and is nowhere near as musical as this stroker. Even the 8V71T was rated at 350 hp and 1030 ft/lbs of torque.

Do you notice the extra weight up front off road? Does it change the centre of gravity or handling substantially?
@chriswells99110 ай бұрын
Being lifted with the 5.9 and no sway bar it is for sure more tippy. I'm sure some better front springs and a sway would help substantially.

You think a 4bt would do ok in a K5 ?

Probably just fine. Turning up the power on it though would probably wouldn't hurt

For those of us that enjoy the wailing of the Detroit, would someone please do a video on the layout of the shift pattern. Gas powered cars usually go left to right, but it sure seems these old trucks go back to the left after some gear and you work your across the cab again. Is it the two speed rear end of the truck, or some magic hidden inside the transmission? An inquiring mind wants to know.

I added reinforcement to the steering gearbox area. Other than that, frame is stock.

Love the sound of the Detroits. Learned to drive in a 68 GMC 9500 long hood with a turned up 8-71 and 13 speed. First truck I drove for work was an International M series with a 6-71 and twin 4 speeds. Great old trucks.

Good job on the improvements. BTW, while this transmission is a 4-speed, it's not driven like a typical 4-speed. If you're not hauling a heavy load, there's no need to start from a dead-stop in 1st gear (actually compound low). That gear is designed for dead-stop starts when hauling a heavy payload. When empty, you simply treat 2nd gear as your normal first gear.

Absolutely gorgeous tractor and plow! Well done. What a nice setup. I pulled 5x16’s with my 1206 row crop. Most of the time it didn’t even know it was back there.

Excellent video. This truck sounds amazing and the fact that it has no re-gen, dpf filter, or def tank just shows that trucks ran perfectly fine for years without that crap being put on there. Keep on trucking brother.
