I remember wanting a game gear with the TV adapter thing so i would be able to watch TV at school secretly like in my backpack. If i knew back then how smartphones would fix that problem, I'd be watching something all day in school 😅

The heck is that G-Major voice of Starla? Creepy. The Jet Streex target tower looked cool. But I couldn't agree more with what you said about Game Boy vs. Game Gear. I was very happy with my non color portable!
@CMmeows2 күн бұрын
The only Game Gear titles that gave me more fun were the Sonic games(including Sonic Drift 1 from Japan and Tails Adventure), Mortal Kombat 1 & 2(never had 3 until years later), Side Pocket(I love pool), Dynamite Headdy, Power Rangers, & Riddick Bowe Boxing. It was a unique selection in a time before I had a Gameboy. That of which I wouldn't own until Spring 1998. Then Christmas of that year, a Gameboy Color. Super Gameboy, however, I did have the same year I had a Game Gear, which was 1995. Game Gear in Spring, Super Gameboy by Christmas.

I mentioned this in the description on the previous volume, but the backgrounds there are a clear stylistic nod to Eyvind Earle who supervised the art direction for Disney's "Sleeping Beauty" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5mbfX13o8-claM

An IQ of 12 huh? Well that's still a much higher number than the amount of games worth playing on game gear... and the same number of batteries you'll go through playing it for like 4 hours.

Count Chocula Cereal- I think I would be freaked out as a kid if I were to see a character’s eyes moving on a cereal box like how it’s shown in this commercial. My Buddy and Kid Sister- Every time I see this commercial, it always calls to mind for me the Robot Chicken parody of this commercial called, “My Stalker”.

My grandmother used to send my cousins old collected Troll dolls from the U.S to the Philippines (as sort of "hand-me-downs") I was so freaking scared of them that I had them place in the far back of my parents' built-in overhead shelf display cabinet with a glass sliding door. It did not help that my [now former] older female cousins husband collected lots and lots of Troll that partially filled their small marital bedroom

During Spring Break of 92, my parents drove me to Florida to visit Disney. I got a Game Gear for the trip, as I was heavy into Sega at the time. I think the first batteries lasted less than two hours. That thing drained batteries like mad. I had a Game Boy also, and definitely wound up using it more. Still, the Game Gear was okay if you had a charger to plug it into. I would use Game Boy on travel and Game Gear for gaming on the couch. At least I didn’t need a light source.

I got one for Christmas in 1993 and only really used it when we went on trips in our motorhome during the summer. My parents eventually only let me use it when we had access to power hookups at a camp site because the battery life was so atrocious. I do have a lot of memories playing the The Majors: Pro Baseball game that came as a pack-in with the system along with Sonic 2 and a carry case. The best game that I owned was probably Castle of Illusion: Starring Mickey Mouse which I believe was a direct port of the version for Sega Master System.

It's been around since 1959 but was not heavily advertised nationwide until the mid-late 1980's. The name of the place they order Pizza from in Home Alone is "Little Nero's" which is a direct spoof.

Speaking as someone who was a little girl in the 80s and had one... FashionStar Fillies were so freaking weird 😂 It's like the board over at Kenner was halfway through a five martini lunch and were like 'what do little girls love?' 'Fashion dolls... horses...' 'PERFECT. Horse fashion dolls it is.' One could say My Little Pony was similar- they had outfits you could get them too- but at least they didnt have realistic horse designs.

It reminds me of the transforming skyscraper robot toy in "Big" in that it was just some toy exec trying to check every possible box with one toy that appealed to almost nobody in the process. That being said, I remember one of the girls at my preschool bringing these to school once. But I don't think they were in stores for very long.

Fox 32 must have been one of the FOX stations to have some of the Fox Kids programming on weekday mornings! Not so here in New York when we had the morning program GDNY preventing that. But when those adult ads appeared at the end, I felt that. Another weekday afternoon of good stuff over!

So different by the time I can remember 10-15 years later. It’s like PBS fundraiser on Disney, interesting. I used to think the 80s and up weren’t vintage, but now that young adults don’t know VCRs, Dial up or some, teens not even DVDs, 30-50 years ago finally counts as vintage in my mind.

Seeing all these ads for Aladdin these past few volumes brings up memories of when my parents took me to Disney World for Spring Break of 92. I visited the animation studio tour they had at the time, where you could see people working on Disney projects, and at the time, they were working on Aladdin. My other memory of the trip is that my dad let me bring my Sega Genesis and a few games along. We hooked it up to the TV in the living room of our suite. When kids at the hotel found out I had a Genesis in my room, I became quite popular. After spending the day in the parks, we would hit the pool then go to my room to play Toe Jam and Earl, Sonic or Castle of Illusion.
