As a user of Logos, Olive Tree and BLB (app), im curious how you feel logos and possibly olive tree are not as effective in looking up and cross referencing Greek terms. I do not think you're in this, but i also don't see how it builds a better mouse trap, either. So maybe I'm overlooking something.

Thanks for the comment @erichansen9669. I appreciate it. I think I may have miscommunicated something if it came across as if I were placing BLB above other apps. I haven't used Logos or Olive Tree. I've heard great things about Logos but never really anything about Olive Tree. Is Logos also free?

For example i was studying Luke 7:35 and I was studying the word “ wisdom “ which is “ sofia “ in greek but it has meaning A and B . So which one should i take ?
@MotivationeerАй бұрын
See my answer to your first question. And thanks for asking such a deep and thoughtful question. One thing I forgot to mention, it helps a great deal to continually ask God for wisdom when studying His word. This is the essence of James 1:5 and Matthew 7:7-8 Thanks again.
@asianzujohnson934Ай бұрын
I have any inquiry . I have understood how to get the translation , but then which interpretation do you zero down with . Because some greek words will have like the A . They write the word and explain B. Then B also is explained and yet B and A are really so different So how do u go about that ?
@MotivationeerАй бұрын
Thanks for the question, @asianzujohnson934. If I understand you correctly, you are saying: - you hover over the "Tools" button next to a verse - you then select "Interlinear" - you then select the "Reverse" tab - you then select the "Strong's" number ...and this takes you to the page where the Greek word appears at the top...am I right? Your question to me then asks, "which interpretation do I use"...right? Well, this is the same dilemma biblical Greek translators face when translating a Bible verse. This is a hurdle because the same Greek word could mean different things when used in a different context. This is also true of English words, of course. For example, someone writes a 'letter" to a friend and a word starts with the "letter" A. So, the best we can do when looking at multiple different ways a Greek word can be used in a sentence, is to carefully look at the context of what is being written. We start with: 1) how would someone of that day and time have taken the meaning of what was said? 2) what is the historical significance of what was said? 3) how does the meaning within this one verse compare with the meaning of the same word found in other verses? 4) how can I apply this meaning to my life compared to how the application would change if I used a different way to translate that word? This is not a short exercise, of course. It is a lifelong commitment to learning. I have grown in my understanding of how to view certain difficult passages. And I have come to realize some passages are not at all difficult. It is a worthy investment of our time as Jesus says in John 6:27 “Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life," We only have a certain amount of time in each day, week, month, year, season and life. Deeply grasping to understanding God's word is worth it.

In our career, at any given time, we are all in a state of either exploring new opportunities, designing new strategies for growth, or climbing as high as we can. I refer to these stages as Pioneer (exploring), Engineer (designing) or Mountaineer (climbing). In order to do each successfully and prediutabl;y, it requires that we deeply understand what motivates us. Most people have no clue. When I work with clients, I help them master the art of motivating themselves. This is a Motivationeer (motivating).

Great APP, but Truth is by Revelation from God through the Holy Spirit, NOT by commentaries, which are the opinions of many educators who keep SUN-day holy, rather than God's sabbaths, new moons, and holydays, which are a part of the Fourth Commandment.
@MotivationeerАй бұрын
Thanks for the comment and your thoughtful insight. I have found (from my own experience within God’s Word) that He has given different gifts to His children. We can find these gifts listed in Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, Ephesians 4 and 1 Peter 4. There is teaching and exhortation (Rom 12), wisdom, knowledge and discernment (1 Cor 12) and speaking (1 Pet 4). These gifts are part of the Spirit’s working and (in my opinion) allow some to take God’s word and help the rest of His children understand it. Commentaries and profoundly important for deeper understanding. Yes, commentaries disagree at times. This, too, is from God since He calls us to be unified even though we disagree. "The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law." - Deuteronomy 29:29 (NASB95)

I like using a Bible translation based on the critical text and a parallel translation based on the majority text. Also I mainly choose a litera translation l for both. In my case, NKJV and NASB95.
@MotivationeerАй бұрын
I agree on the text types. I’m sure you’ve heard about it but I recently found and completed a Dallas Theological Seminary 26-part course on textual criticism of the New Testament. It changed the way I use BLB now. And thanks for the comment @ScottManser-eu2pg
@MotivationeerАй бұрын
BTW, how do you know the difference, (within an app like the BLB) when you are using a translation based on critical vs majority text? Do you just happen to know this outside of the BLB app and then simply choose the version you use? If you happen to have a link to a list of which translation are based on majority and which are based on critical, that would be very useful to me. I personally thought all translations (other than the KJV) were based on all three text types (Alex, West, Byz).

@Motivationeer2 ай бұрын
The way you worded this makes me think I am missing a feature of the app. What do you mean by "fast checking a quote"? Are you saying you just look up the Bible verse quickly to see if the passage quoted is accurate?
@leenaright39492 ай бұрын
@@Motivationeer yes , for example.. "cleanliness is next to godliness" That phrase is not listed in the kjv bible. Neither is the combination of words "next to godliness". However, if I do a word search on just the word " godliness" I find 15 verses where it is used. Good for doing word studies ! I was curious about what the four winds represented in the bible, so I looked up east wind, north wind, south wind and west wind. Try it, read the verses and notice what they tell you about the east wind in particular..lol I love dissecting and discovering jewels in God's word 🌷

i currently have 3 different Bible apps on my phone. One is just there sort of as an emergency use / legacy holder over. Logos is the main backup. The one feature logos has that the BLB does not have. Is the ability to have several windows open at the same time. Aside from that one feature of logos. Blue Letter Bible (BLB) is in my opinion the single best phone Bible app. It is the best combination of user friendly, while have easy access to very powerful tools. It is amazing what you can find, just by focusing on a single word and its use throughout the Bible. As far as for computers. The Navigation top bar needs to be redone. Its is old and clunky and takes a few days to get used too. Once your into the Bible it is the same powerful easy to use tools as on the phone app. Only with a bigger screen and also the MISC. option, which is not in the phone app. Logos and e-sword have many more options. i find i spend more time messing around with the options. Than focused on my reading and studying. If i'm putting together something complicated. Those apps are often better in the long run for complex research. For daily use. The BLB is unquestionably my go too. i have looked into about 6 or so Bible apps.
