I'm just starting in china painting, I was given 2 kilns but need to have my wiring changed so I can plug them in. I was also given several supplies, however, I'm having a hard time finding new supplies. I have checked both Michael's & Hobby Lobby (both about 80 miles from me) and when I asked about their porcelain painting supplies, the workers were clueless! Where can I find china painting supplies?? (I live in a rural area of West Texas)
@Paintnporcelain21 күн бұрын
You need to order them on-line. DallasChina.com and Marylandchina.com sell supplies. Then join a Facebook page. I have live lessons every Wed. On PaintnPorcelain Exchange on Facebook. It’s a private group so you have to agree to the rules. Texas has the largest number of china painters (rural and otherwise). The World Organization of China Painters has a list of where the clubs are located. Www.WOCP.org and that may give you local contacts.

Hello Anne, Thanks for the video! What cone number did you use for the red colors? The red colors keep firing off every time I use them.
@Paintnporcelain21 күн бұрын
I use 017 but if your red fires off it’s the paint. Try Persian Red or Carnation Red. Don’t use Blood Ted on a first fire. We had a discussion about this on my Facebook group site PaintnPorcelain Exchange. To join the group you must agree to the rules. I have live classes every Wed and you can post questions.

Is the sanding sponge found in stores the same as the one we commonly use, or are there notable differences?
@Paintnporcelain2 ай бұрын
If you mean hardware store sanding sponges they are CONSIDERABLY coarser and would scratch the surface. These sponge sanders are specific to china painting.

I also want to thank you for publishing china painting information and instruction. My mom and I took a class back in the early 70's and we moved on to painting and making porcelain dolls. I have a desire to start painting again and your information will be a great refresher with current techniques. I have a question that I am trying to find the answer to, I hope someone will respond . If you have a piece of a porcelain that you would like to "repaint" for whatever reason, can you fire the piece again at a higher temperature to burn the china paint off? And if that is done, will there be any residual marks from the previous painting left behind? I seem to remember that could be done, but that was oh so many years ago. Thank you for all this great information!!
@Paintnporcelain2 ай бұрын
I have not heard of firing at high temperature to burn paint off. Many of our members have used “Whink” which is a corrosive product if used in moderation will remove china paint but you need to be well ventilated and wear gloves. It can remove the glaze as well. It’s better to just start on a new piece.

Can you paint on china with glass paints.?
@Paintnporcelain2 ай бұрын
Not sure. My kiln doesn’t fire hot enough for glass but I know there are dedicated glass paints so I have to think there is a reason for that.

Hello, thank you so much for your time to make this video❤ ! I want to ask what you're doing with the paints that left after painting? If you don't use all of them how do you keep them for next painting? Sorry if you said it, maybe I missed that point somewhere in your video. Thank you so much for your answer! Best regards, Lili

The photo on the cover of this video shows my palette. It is metal And glass. I mix my paints with mineral oil and they don’t dry out easily. The metal cover has hinges that keep the paint moist

Hi are these enamel paints?
@Paintnporcelain3 ай бұрын
No. Enamels can be used on porcelain and comes in a powder but these are china paints. Made with minerals and glass. They are a powder applied with a china painting medium. Enamels are not self-leveling and are opaque. China paint IS self- leveling and is tranparent. You apply multiple layers

Very interesting! I just was given a whole bunch of China paints to try on my ceramics. Am I correct I fire to cone 018? Can you tell me for how long do I fire it? Do I hold at the top temp for anytime? I followed most of your video except when you wiped off half the image! Not sure why. It was so pretty 😍 I know nothing about this but want to paint fine lines. Was the sponge dry or wet? And was that to take off any dark wash areas and make the background smoother or a more uniform color? Thanks!
@Paintnporcelain4 ай бұрын
China paints won’t work on ceramics according to my ceramics friends. I fire 017 for 45 min then turn off. I use dry sponges and wipe out tools to wipe off paint

Hello Ann, thanks for the video, it is super interesting. I want to ask you at what temperature or pyrometric cone is the bisque fired? After painting and fire cone 017, what's next, glaze it? I'm not clear about the purpose of painting over bisque?
@Paintnporcelain6 ай бұрын
When you paint over bisque it gives you a softer finish that you can't get on glazed china. I prefer it for Easter eggs and Christmas ornaments. I also like the softness of bisque boxes that have been fired. Using metallics on it makes it glow. It's just a look you CAN'T get with glazed china.
@caceramicstudio6 ай бұрын
@Paintnporcelain wow! Interesting, so the porcelain bisque is mature fire to cone 6 - 10, I get it!😍 The paints that I use for porcelain dolls I paint it in bisque 017 and then fire cone 6. I have others that are Lladró kind which I also apply in bisque 017, these are oil-based and fire at 6. Thanks for the video!🙏🙏🙏

Good vid. I am a potter and want to paint my own work. I am assuming any figurines etc that you are buying in bisque are slipcast lowfire whiteware with a firing temp of cone 05?. White finished glazed pieces either new or used could be anything from lowfire whiteware to cone 10, high fire porcelain; and anything in between? I can see myself working in something like Lagoona B Mix, a porcelanious stone ware. Any suggestions on your part?

Best of luck! I’m afraid I buy my porcelain finished and know little about out the process. Keep in mind ceramics/pottery is different than porcelain paintin g
