Sorry guys, I’m behind on episodes and catching up but I just wanted to point out the inherent difference in AI and computer programs with presets and such like you’re talking about, Jeff. The difference between the two (and where the heavy discourse comes from) is that whenever you’re using a computer program or plugin or anything like that with any sort of preset or whatever, that has all been programmed in by a person or group of people who have been credited and compensated (or at least hopefully they have been lol). When it comes to AI, what we’re really talking about is machine learning and generative AI, which involves these machine learning programs being fed large amounts of existing information in order to “learn”, and the discourse stems from the fact that essentially right now, a lot or even most of the original creators of all that information are not being credited. Essentially so far, a lot of it is just being lifted wholesale without any credit being given. So that’s really the difference between the two and why it’s such a hot topic right now.

As far as for my own personal use, I know I never want to use anything that I could possibly benefit from personally or financially that uses machine learning unless I can be sure that the proper credit is being given to the proper parties. Sure, I may throw something into ChatGPT for a laugh or something like that, but if it’s something I’m putting any amount of my own creative energy into and therefore I could gain some benefit from, then I wanna make sure I know where everything trickles down from at least to the best of my knowledge.
