Great video. I agree, there's something to be said for pedaling up, whether it's a technical single track or forest service road to earn your turns on the descent. It's good exercise and makes for a much more rounded and epic experience. It's nice to ride out in nature where the trails are free to use, lack the dreaded breaking bumps and don't require you to stand in any lineups! The additional calories burned and cardio benefit means you can enjoy that high-carb and protein meal with a drink of choice guilt-free post ride. Having said that, bike parks are fun too and they have their place. A few times a season is enough for me. The thing you can't replace is the amount of vertical you get riding a park. The resulting practice you get descending fast through berms and hitting features at speed will either kill you or increase your competence and competence exponentially...which you can then take with you to your usual trails. You can't beat the bike park for how quickly it can help you to develop riding skills!
@B1KER3 күн бұрын
I definitely noticed things that got easier or I was willing to do after getting back from Whistler that were a nogo before the trip. I think you are dead on when you say you can't beat the amount of practice you get in the vertical. Essentially that one day would have been 6 or 7 solid days of riding's decent...in one day. Just crazy.

Marathon days at Whistler are much more enjoyable on a DH bike--the travel, the geo, the high bars, dual crown, DH casings. I was up 2x/week this summer. For me, rest days were also key. Kept the body going, and kept it fresh for the brain too.

Very cool video. I just got back into mtb a few months ago, and now I remember why I quit 2 decades ago. My knuckles absolutely hurt and can’t move my fingers after 5 minutes of rough downhill. It’s alright though, just doing some xc riding is fun to me again.

I love MTN biking, but ive never ridden at a bike park and dont think id like it. Im 41 now and i was in a really gnarly road bike accident when i was 28,I still have some fear from that. I dont really like jumps or super gnarly trails. Im fine to ski a double black at the resort, but dont really have an interest in bike parks. Im very happy on my local moderate single track in SoCal.

I can relate. I separated my shoulder riding years ago. It was a handful of years I was completely fine not pushing it and riding xc. But eventually I got over it and started pushing again. At the end of the day, just have fun. Who cares what you’re doing. 🤘

Great video. I'm working on the hardtail to get it where it's capable enough for any trail I care to ride. The biggest single improvement in manoeuvrability was to lighten up the front by swapping the Suntour Fork for a Fox 36.

This is so validating. As someone who is relatively new and gets intimidated by blue trails in my local state parks it is nice to see that sometimes it is okay to just go "nope" and walk around something even though I know that I probably could do something. I try to go with the philosophy of "If I'm not feeling it, I'm not doing it" and then going to ride some easier trails or being okay with walking around things I don't want to do. Thank you for being honest.
@B1KER8 күн бұрын
It’s the truth of the matter. Everyone does it. Even those senders you see with the sick edits. They will walk away and come back again later.
