Hi, Does it have any effect on your MOT, removing your rear seats permanently?
@RowdE88
@RowdE88 Ай бұрын
It goes through fine but it is noted on the mot certificate somewhere that the seats aren't present... I guess some garages are more fussy than others. I'm lucky in that I've found one that doesn't seem very fussy at all

I appreciate this video, mate. What if you get a flat when you are on the road and have no jack? Can you still complete the repair? If the tire is completely flat, do you need to add air? Cheers.

The idea is good, but it would have been better to use an electric induction cooker with a second portable battery instead of a gas cooker, which is prohibited for use indoors and can cause suffocation and death. You also need a solar panel and a refrigerator, an exterior awning and many more basic things to be able to do and consider this vehicle a camper, which is also out of catalog and its circulation is prohibited in the ULEZ areas of most cities in the UK and the Europeans in this year 2023. thanks for the video, and I follow you to see future changes. also, I don't think it's legal to drive in the UK without authorization from your insurance company and DVLA to have converted your vehicle into a camper. I don't think that with an interior gas cooker, you'll pass the camperization approval and with a vehicle registered after September 2015, Euro 6 or later would have been better and less legal problems.

For the rear windscreen I used a couple of little suckers (neat hole plus duct tape to hold). On the other windows I just cut the foil insulation stuff slightly oversize and it's rigid enough that it just stays in place. I thought I might need suckers or velcro or something on those too if they were tending to flop down and fall out of place when sleeping overnight but no, they seem to happily stay in place on their own.

yes just a couple of screws on each side = bomber. Sometimes people use metal inserts to reinforce the screw hole. Don't think these received that treatment though (generally unnecessary).

During inserting the rubber strip, I mistakely put more pressure & whole rubber strip went in & fell into the tyre loosely. The hole was left opened. So I had to insert another strip to fix the leakage. Will it cause any damages to tyre in long run or any issues in driving the car at high speed ? Now what should i do ?

I'm sure this type of repair is regarded as temporary by 'professionals' but as far as I'm concerned, yes it's permanent. The repair in this video is still going strong 15months later with car in daily use. As mentioned in the description, I've done lots of these repairs now and never seen one fail yet.

Gut gemacht,.

Nice work 👍 What finish did you apply to the volume afterwards? Would it be possible to do it with a clear finish?
@RowdE88
@RowdE88 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I didn't actually apply the finish and I'm not sure exactly what my friends applied before mounting the volumes but it is/was a clear finish (think it was an oil), not paint. I really like osmo hard wax oil on birch ply but I'm sure you could use any clear varnish, oil, wax really to give a good finish. Guess some will be more hard-wearing and mark/rubber resistant than others depending on setting?

thanks for the info. very helpful. hey i was looking at that pyramid calculator link you got on here. its a bit confusing to me. it shows 3 side segments but also 3 floor pieces, on roughly a 3 sided low profile pyramid similar to what you made in this video. my question, would i just cut out the 3 side segments? does that mean they are all the same size and bevel cuts?
@RowdE88
@RowdE88 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, not sure I quite understand what you mean by side segments vs floor pieces... Maybe the same pieces just represented differently in the different diagrams? Yeah the type of volume made in this vid is made from just three parts and they're all the same size and bevel cuts.

Thanks for this. A couple of questions: With these changes, does DVLA and/or your insurance need to be informed? I assume you have to put the seat (s) back in for the MOT? Also, do you think a Diesel heater could be fitted into the Octavia?
@RowdE88
@RowdE88 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, good questions..I didn't/haven't informed DVLA or insurance. Find it's best not to ask in these situations... for what it's worth, I have been stopped by the police recently and they didn't seem at all concerned about the set up. Yes, I put all seats back in for mot. The passenger side airbag will also need resetting via vag software or similar to pass mot. Sorry no idea on the diesel heater as it's not something I've looked into.
@heidigoescamping3895
@heidigoescamping3895 2 жыл бұрын
You do need to inform insurance if you remove seats. If they clip out by design its fine but if you need to unbolt them it counts as a modification. My insurance company won't insure me if I remove seats. To drive regardless would invalidate my insurance. Bad new if someone crashes into me or vis versa. There are specialist insurance brokers that will cover you though.
@skrufdy9688
@skrufdy9688 2 жыл бұрын
@@heidigoescamping3895 does insurance go up when you tell them or do you just put “2 seats” when they ask how many seats in the car and you’re covered?
@heidigoescamping3895
@heidigoescamping3895 2 жыл бұрын
@@skrufdy9688 I think they assume your car had the correct number of seats so removing the back ones and then telling them it only has 2 would invalidate your insurance. Insurance companies are not your friend. They will do anything to avoid paying out. I know someone who deals with claims and they look for reasons not to pay out. Always best to be honest for your peace of mind.
