Not sure what you are using, but this can be done without electrical, reverse plating. Muriatic acid will do it quick and easy. Watch the hands and eyes. Neutralize when done. Rinse well. Ventilate or do outside. It is pretty fuming! It is available at hardware stores. Much safer than other acids.

From my research, the CBR500R that I'm looking to buy has a positive error on the speedometer of roughly 7%. Adding one teeth lengthens the gearing by almost 7%. Because thiat bike measures it's speed from the gearbox and not the wheels, changing the gear ratio changes the speedometer reading. So adding one tooth to the front sprocket basically eliminates speedometer error fully and now your indicated speed is your real speed. It should also be much better since the stock gearing is too short, unless one is a very heavy rider.

@Nrgpack3 жыл бұрын
@Nrgpack Жыл бұрын

Can you please explain more? ... Did it work? What is the chemical you used and mixing volumes etc? ... Thanks.
@Nrgpack4 жыл бұрын
Hello Dave, sorry for the late answer :-). Well, the dechroming went so-so. Bet because of the severe rust on the headlight the chrome kind of peeled off. I used sulfuric acid ( molecular formula H2SO4, I hope i spelled that OK). Just mix in distilled water until you get good conductivity. Use an old school battery charger, the new electronic ones don't work coz they have to feel that a battery is connected. Anyway, depending on the size of the part 6 volt or 12 volt works. The current increases the more H2SO4 you use. You know, it's all experimental. I finallt got rid of the chrome and was able to paint the headlight. Come to think of it, I would be possible to use sodium hydroxide (caustic soda, easier to obtain) or some kind of drain cleaner just to get the water to carry electricity. I hope this will help you.
@Nrgpack4 жыл бұрын
Sorry... in the video I tried a horn signal cover... After that test I did the headlamp and it went well.. If you try this please take care. When the sulfuric acid reacts with the anod and cathod it forms hydrgen gas, and that can explode if the concentration gets to high.. Good luck !!! Regards // Tom
@EssexSilvering4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply ... Did the Sulphuric acid eat through the metal as well? I left a chrome part in 35% Hydrochloric acid and it was removing the chrome but was also eating the metal as well and that was without electroplating setup, no electricity at all ... So won't be doing that again lol ... I've seen a guy on here that just uses pool salts and water, maybe its like a version of Caustic soda, I have both anyway, Sulphuric and the Caustic ... Always up for an experiment, just love the science ;-)
@Nrgpack4 жыл бұрын
@@EssexSilvering Yes Dave, it did... the acid is probably losening up the metal and that way the chrome is comming off...hehehehe...we'll just keep trying... if I find a good solution or some other mischief I'll post it here...hehehehe...regards // Tom
