It's not widely known, but Björk (you pronounced her name perfectly) deeply loves and was greatly inspired by the Cocteau Twins. Truth be told, almost every band you mentioned were largely inspired by the Cocteau Twins, except for Aphex Twin (although your recommendation is outstanding by itself). The Cure's 'Pornography' album is one of my favorite albums from them when I first heard it, while getting stoned with my Goth-coven friends. Bok - It's sounding like your becoming more and more Goth yourself. There are several bands that you mentioned, which were produced, mastered, and recorded by Robin Guthrie ― Nobody realizes this little fact. He and Simon Raymonde both own the BellaUtonic Label so they usually touch every album produced. I personally want you to listen to more Cocteau Twins albums, or even maybe one of their many, many EP's. Ask and I'll guide you to whatever you want, depending on your mood. Later, Bok

Greetings bok, I must confess the snippets of music you've presented in your list are all rather predictable, but then I suppose it's not entirely surprising given the mainstream nature of the selections. The composition Geryon by TR/ST unquestionably outshines everything you've featured here. I should clarify I don't typically indulge in music as most do. However i find myself compelled to comment on something else entirely, your emotional display... It's quite unsightly. To allow oneself to be so overcome by a melody, especially in a public forum. One must maintain composure, to sob in such a manner, exposes a certain lack of control and frankly it reflects poorly on your character. You will be perceived as weak. I say this advice with all due peace and love.

Thats the power of the Cocteaus right there. My experience didn't involve drugs. ( Not that I'm not a user, that came later lol) I apparently heard the title track way back either on mtv or the radio. No idea where or who they were at the time. (Was a teen). Fast forward 30 odd years later Saw the album at a record shop and had this strange de ja vu thing like i knew what this was and loved it, but it was like a dream from some past life... Anyways yea bought the record and when the title track played it just fell into place. It was always Liz that drew me into this group. She has that power. She says so much while saying so little. And let's not even talk about her voice itself🥰. Let's not take anything away from Robin and Symon either, pure tonal mastery . This is coming from a grungy metal head btw. Lol Cocteaus are the absolute GOATs

1:10 I think the point is if some people were to do it unconditionally itd simply be a discography dump, which is pretty uninteresting content and an unengaging list to make. Limiting it in some capacity makes it a lot more challenging to pick songs.

Supposedly the only track off SAW 85-92 that's from 1985 is "i". I don't know if even that one is that old, but Eno and others had long since shown that it was definitely possible. Re: Laughing Stock, I listened to that and "Spirit of Eden" a lot in my teens but especially during autumn, great depressed teenager soundtrack, lmao.

Love your appreciation of Cocteau Twins/MBV as well as nods to BoC, Autechre, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Kate Bush etc. Plenty of new stuff for me to check out from your selection too - thanks :) A few recommendations based on what you like aleady: Broadcast (albums Ha Ha Sound and The Noise Made By People) Godspeed! You Black Emperor (the tracks Mladic, Moya and East Hastings in particular) I Break Horses (Chiaroscuro) Happy listening!

I've recommended Vaughn-Williams' Tallis Fantasia before, but I'm also intensely curious to know how Magma's Theusz Hamtaahk would grab you. Don't even reflect on how you are doing with channel growth, etc. Just keep on doing what you're doing and just stay beautiful.
@Vingul21 күн бұрын
I was listening to the Tallis Fantasia this Sunday with a couple of friends as we drove across the snowy Hardangervidda, the mountain plateau (about 1200 meters above sea level) separating West Norway and East Norway. The moon was full (practically speaking), to begin with we could only very faintly make it out behind a thick haze of cloud, but during the RVW piece it appeared in full silvery sheen before going behind a pitch black cloud, etc.. it was awesome. Not to get all faux-poetic, lol.

I love the Cocteau Twins "Treasure" album t-shirt your wearing ― They must have hacked your mind. Unfortunately, it takes time to build a community where people will unconditionally trust your music taste and stylistic expressions, which is where your heading and trajectory indicate. Most of time, when musicians had to 'master' each song was finished with all analogue equipment ― I say it's a lot like driving a standard stick shift automobile; then suddenly switching over to an automatic transmission vehicle. The driver has to suddenly switch their order of progression. Those people who mastered albums 'Audio Engineers' can bring out the best version possible; but, the music before the digital age that's remained timeless and relevant will invariable mastered their own work. This process required so much time, that the "Indie Music" movement right afterwards during the 80's blossened and eventually it fully bloomed..... !!!! Bok ― Your magic is that you don't do a whole "technical analysis" of every album. You offer a clear and emotive response, which is way better than what others do. That technical stuff is where a lot of the pretentiousness you spoke about came directly from the purveyors of good taste, on behalf of the mass public.
@boklostia88723 күн бұрын
I feel like the title 'music nerd' brings alongside it an air of pretentiousness that the average music enjoyer looks down upon. I'd agree with you that theres too many individuals out there that try to look too critical for the sake of looking musically intelligent. 'Smags' Is a guy I'd reccomend to you if youre looking for someone who loves music, but is genuine. Hes genuinely done reaction videos of hundreds of critically acclaimed albums as just a normal, music loving guy.
@spinglasshydra22 күн бұрын
@@boklostia887 Well, my boy, Bok, I think I had better tell you something about myself. I'm the Executive Senior Editor for Sony Music Headquarters based in Los Angeles. I gave-up listening to all those who show the "pretentiousness" you speak of, from people trying to essentially try to impress everyone with a technical review of music that are: "Trying to sound and look, as if, they actually know what they are talking about, attempting to belong to an exclusive club that's above everyone else". Music elitism is something that's natural for a beginner, who only wants to belong to, "an exclusive club of music elitists'." Your different ― Bok. Your down-to-Earth way of speaking and discussing music is exactly what other people want. I'm detecting someone probably wrote something in the comments section, that somehow intimidated your demeanor, as well as to harbor yourself into some dark corner of KZbin's non-acceptable group. It's just a feeling, because I've watched it happen to people before, which is nothing more than average "bullying". My Uni education was primarily focused on Psychology, so my advantage is I can read anybody's body language on KZbin when they record themselves. I can almost immediately locate those people with a gigantic "superiority complex" are people who come from a financially upper middle to the lower classes and privileged so those people decided to make a KZbin page into something they've tried to build a "valid" reputation. Let me tell you, they do research beforehand the listening of an album for every band they feature, way before trying to review some highly complex "intelectual babble". More that 95% percent of these people are, for the lack of a better phrase ― They're "full of pure shit.....!!!!" On any given day, I'm required to listen to more music than anyone else within my industry will do; however, most critics don't listen to the deeper message within the music. I'm going to use your reaction to the "Heaven or Las Vegas" album by the Cocteau Twins as an example. Even though you had dropped some acid beforehand, it only opened yourself up to the greater purpose and magic of music; by not, expressing their technical aspects, would have only opened yourself to an insurmountable level of negative criticism. People can be extremely prejudicial over what they're trying to do, so they troll KZbin to so what their competition might be. There are NOT critics who evaluate an albums emotiveness and they specifically DON'T listen enough to find that something that's so differently done might expand a particular genre, which might expands our awareness of about the artist. Everything is within your genuine reactions, Bok, into various types of music where I look for specifically genuine reactions. Others try to build a personality, with a flashy platform here on KZbin and currently there are none for except you, who bring me this much joy, I've unsubscribed to countless KZbin pages. I found you out of pure luck. Believe me, I can become uber-technical about the way I speak or write to anyone, but "believe me once again" they are full of pure shit. I completely enjoy your "genuine reactions" who overshadow those with ― A major "superiority complex" (something you lack) where they feel entitled to snubs and devaluates anybody else who tries to compete with them, because they have a false sense of security. Of coarse, I never told them what I do, muchless about where I work, because it would only validate their false conclusions. My credentials tend to overwhelm others, yes, but I'm essentially "nothing more" than a "Music Nerd" just as much as yourself. I find you completely refreshing, because I want genuine reactions from the music itself. Music, can absolutely make one feel a plethora of emotions: From depressed to angry; A satisfying fulfillment of everything "happy" and "elated" sewn into the music's fabric; To something that demure and comforting like the rain in Summer; And, yet for most people, they lack an ability to psychoanalyze music from various albums ― When someone like yourself fulfils a position that I want to hear. It's a gift that not many people have, muchless tell others about. The one thing that I've discovered, are many of these artists would deeply enjoy a phone call or email ― Especially, whenever people are confused or dismayed about their creative direction. Again not everyone has this option, except if, you went to their Social Media Platform and looked up any contact information, except for Bandcamp who always have a direct linkage to every artists that are listed. Bok ― There's nothing wrong with yourself..... !!!! Those other "posers" are far to technical and almost "robotic", without any information about a bands history, what happened to give such motivation at the time. There's always a story, or something that happened in their past which inspired them to make a song from the ❤heart. I feel as if I can call you a friend, Bok. I do not want you to crawl away from being unique, creative, as well as personable. You feel everything I believe and there's nothing wrong with you at all. If you feel comfortable continuing without any "substances" to loosen you up, then do that. If you feel an occasionally special reason, you may continue dropping acid and give us your genuine self, as expressive as you want to be. The more creative and unique you are about presentations, this is where the "paydirt" is freshly tilled. Nobody ever gives the their time to just anyone and if people say something rude, nasty, or even intimidating ― Well, simply ignore them. You can block your channel from those you deem as "pretentious" jackasses and survey comments before they are posted. Believe me again, I've had people from every aspect become enraged by my music reviews, but I try to not sugarcoat my responses. I've learned that some people don't want to try to understand, is that music is a personal decision and it can expose some raw emotions. BTW: Did you buy a guitar yet, Bok......???
