I have a P0010 code which states that it’s a camshaft position sensor actuator bank 1, would this be the sensor itself or should I replace the solenoids? Are there separate censors for the exhaust and intake ? Or does the same censor govern both solenoids?
@LiteVideo3 жыл бұрын
If you have the same engine around the same year - There are two solenoids one for intake and one for exhaust. This was many years ago but based on other reports I had read at the time I replaced both once I started throwing those codes, such as P0010, and when I replaced both solenoids and cleared my codes I never had the issue again while I owned the car. Remember, these codes are diagnostic and generalized so don’t rely on the codes alone. But like you, I googled it for the Ecotec engine at the time (almost 10 years ago) and the solenoids seemed to be the trouble and in my case they were.

Also said service esc after so do I need to go to O’Reilly and have them reset my codes or what should I do ? It was driving the same but maybe a little more off .

Which codes are you getting? If I remember correctly I did reset the codes but if it was the actuators you should notice a good difference in driving. Months Before the actuators I also had a catalytic converters Fail but that was a known issue and TSB from GM for my model year that they covered but that one threw a different code.

No need to grease anything. Simply take your finger (wear protective gloves) and rub a little motor oil on the o rings on the new solenoids before you insert. Place the solenoid straight in and press. If it doesn’t press in easily by hand - it should when you tighten the bolt.

I just performed this repair and now have a pretty good oil leak onto the motor.....what did I do wrong?
@LiteVideo5 жыл бұрын
Double check part numbers and make sure the solenoids are fully seated and tightened. If that checks out check the o rings on the solenoids to make sure they didn’t tear when inserting. Are you sure you have an active leak? Did any spill from the old solenoids when you removed? Also, be sure you replaced the oil fill cap.
@thehotpoolboy44145 жыл бұрын
Found it. I got the correct part number. However, while the intake solenoid fit just fine, the exhaust absolutely would not seat, even with fresh motor oil applied to the O ring. This caused a significant oil leak when running the vehicle. For what ever reason the new exhaust solenoid seemed to be just a fraction too big. Luckily I had the P0010 code, so only the intake was the problem. I put the old exhaust back in and the check engine light still went away. Thanks for your help!

Is intake air vent flap door same as throttle body at the end of intake hose you were pulling open, I am told by two trust worthy gents, one provincial seniors mechanic Mgr at the emission test head office on phone (2) a guy helped me with boosting who had same problem as I have w his Ford.. said he open the intake hose to reach the intake flap to spray clean it & his sputtering stopped. My 04 2.2l Malibu sputters every few months for few days and goes away for 2-3-6 months to start again as it did last week.This infrequent sputtering started about 3-4 years back.at ~ 110k km(68k miles) now I've 175k~110k miles, 04 Malibu intake hose come from Air filter cover to front of engine just below oil cap, also, 04 doesn't have top overall cover as yours, but underneath the cover engine looks the same. Any idea where will I find the intake air valve door to see if its sticking occasionally due to buildups & to spray clean it (with what spray? too plz) any help/ thoughts appreciated, Sam
@LiteVideo5 жыл бұрын
N Sa Yes the throttle body will often get black carbon buildup around the flap. You are correct, in my video when I lift the engine cover, I point out the throttle body - that is the flap inside you are talking about. That is the area you want to clean but be careful when you do. Don’t apply too much pressure or force the “flap.”Most auto parts stores sell throttle body/choke cleaner spray. If you search KZbin for “cleaning throttle body carbon” you will see quite a few videos on how to clean, here’s just one example m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZ7Vp6GQiZmUerc Mine wasn’t dirty when I made this video so didn’t have to clean.

Not much is involved in this repair. The only thing I can think to suggest is to double check to make sure you fully seated the new solenoids and the connections to them and you installed the intake solenoid in the intake position on the engine and the exhaust solenoid in the exhaust position (the solenoids are color coded grey and black and the valve cover is marked for INT (intake) and EXH (exhaust). Also double check that your intake manifold is fully seated onto the throttle body.
@LiteVideo8 жыл бұрын
Intake solenoid has a grey connector and the exhaust solenoid has a black connector. Check also to make sure your air in stake hose from your air cleaner box to the intake manifold is fully seated and secured.
