It all started in 1965 on the waste ground at the Portobello end of Cambridge gds where fly-pitching started, (just off Portobello mkt)! I bought an old toolbox from a fly- pitcher sitting on the ground! By 1970 I had joined the fly-pitchers, selling vintage clothes under the newly built fly-over. RBKC tried in vain to evict us, but we weren’t breaking any laws! So they agreed to let us trade as long as we paid rent which would support the local community! A Charity Trust was set up on the proceeds of our rent, and later (in the 70s) - included Council Funding.

Not one mention of the source of income that made all this possible and provided regular revenue from the beginning! The income that paid the wages of NKAT and generated Banking, Investment and Council loans that supported the Projects? The Westway Market Traders! Why is this vital contribution ignored? The projects which started with volunteers could not have continued without revenue - IE the Flyover Market Traders who began in late 60s and then paid rent which provided vital commercial support for the costs of projects! Just as importantly the Market upgraded the area by attracting swathes of tourists which enabled all the new shops, restaurants, then later the nightclub. This stimulated the area with employment opportunities. Why is this critical element of the enabling financial source ignored? Without these traders', contributions (for 50 years) nothing would have evolved. Good ideas don't work without money! Money didn't grow on trees, even charities need revenue to qualify for loans, investments etc (There was one tiny mention at the end of the clip dismissing "insignificant trading activity near Portobello rd")

What about the Stables that provide affordable riding for disadvantaged and disabled kids, what about Makan on the other side of the road in this video that is always busy and doesn't want to close, what about Maxilla Children's Centre? #DontTrustTheTrust
