"Art Deco is an interesting choice for a 50s game because it was from the 30's and 40's" Yeah. so was the music, and everything else. It was 40s bro not 50s Seriously the ink spots 'set the world on fire' song was recorded in 1941

I like to excuxse the changes because fallout 4 takes place in another part of the country. While it shouldn't have changed the ghouls because radiation is radiation, Super mutants are different because of the different tempered with FEV, so those sorta makes sense a little bit. The bomb fell so near everything shouldn't have stayed as colourful as they did, but i can accept the difference in buildings yet again because it takes place across the country, but the atmosphere should've definitely been more bleak.

Great video, the cartoonish vibes are a thing in modern games that rly bugs me. similar with Borderlands. The first one felt like an actuall post apocalyptic scenario and they tend to get more "happy". Same with Fallout. Think developers are too scared to loose potential buyers if the games are to grim. They just want the moneys, back then they actually cared

Excuse me, I played the original Fallout, when I was as old as you are now or younger. So... excuse me... I should be commenting elsewhere right now!

It lost its style because Bethesda remakes one same game over and over in a shitty outdated engine since Morrowind. And they never got what Fallout is about in the first place. It's all surface lvl with them. Most people (normies) don't even know about real Fallout (1 and 2) and for them Bethesda slop is true Fallout experience.

You're the only other person I've seen to have mentioned The City of Lost Children and yet, despite being in the context of comparison with Fallout, you neglected to mention that Ron Pearlman is IN THE MOVIE lol. No worries tho, shit happens

I personally grew up not liking at all how Fortnite looked, and how simple everything was. I actually got into it in 2024, and I see why now. I look back at OG and I dislike it a lot compared to the modern Fortnite we have now.

I enjoyed the light hearted tone of fallout 4 but fallout 3 was the GOAT until new Vegas topped it. That was the high watermark in my opinion but if it was to change again I think going back to that darker more scary theme of 1&2 would be an improvement.

I don't mind the new designs that much but if Bethesda just kept the FO3 and NV designs for 3D video games with just updated graphics for modernization would be a better option in my opinion.

I agree with some of what you said; I came into the franchise proper with FO3, and prefer its grittier aesthetic over the seemingly over-saturated pastels of 4 and 76... However, let's look at it this way: 4 is set several decades after the events of 3 and a different place, being the Commonwealth. After the success of Project Purity and the marked improvement of life in DC, there would surely be improved trade, travel and technological progress. Add to that the progress that had been made by the NCR since FO2, and it seems feasible to consider a beginning of the restoration of society back to pre-war days. On the other hand, I definitely did not care for the unnecessary redesigns of certain guns, architecture, cars, etc. It always seemed odd to me that it would all be so entrenched in the stereotypical1950s style and expectations of the future. I have a... low... opinion on retcons, especially when they come across so jarringly different as they have here. I can accept that perhaps that kind of style was back in vogue at the time before the war, but not nearly to such an extent. It just seems like nauseating flanderisation.

Fallout ends at 2. Sorry Vegas boys, even the city itself was an empty shadow of Reno. Even 2 kinds falls off. Tim Cain IS Fallout and its sad he never got to truly flex his creative strength with the franchise.

The scrap guns are the olny new part of the game that makes sense being it seems to be every single person has old world weapons that are just as functional as they were hundreds of years ago, and this is even more of a problem in 4 being set even latter. New vegas even though new game kind of explored that the new government would not be able to make futuristic weapons so they equip people with WW1 tech. old games defiantly explored people rebuilding civilization and being tribals with no tech with nothing and not just living in retro structures and acting like its still retro future. the retro future aspect was very subdued and not everywhere. It was a distant thing with small references that was put in to be ironic. And the ruins in the old games would be amazing in new games they went art deco or whatever you call it, buildings with big human faces and winged statues. And I wrote this before watching video, and you said it too. Though bethesda does do it right at times the raiders do have a mad max vibe which he original games did have. And as pointed out 3 even though people rip on it did basically have all the same building astetics. The increasing retroworld is a fallout 4 thing. Also speaking of the stupid colors the game is set hundreds after the bombs, all the paint should be gone.
