I just wanna thank you for the videos. I live in Orlando, Florida and I just adopted a 12 week old Great Pyrenees I found your videos very helpful. Thank you!!

How do you make the association if you can’t get the dog to show interest in the item to begin with? As soon as my 2yr old GSD knows the treat is in my hand, he is ONLY interested in the treat, not any number of toys offered to him.
@gabriellamf38127 ай бұрын
Have you tried using kibble as opposed to treats? They are slightly less exciting but still a reward.
@rahelgoldman48757 ай бұрын
I would recommend to teach the dog "touch" first. And then use that to introduce the toy. And the treats can be in a pouch not your hand . Only after they do what you are trying to get them to do then do you put your hand in the pouch to get the treat. Good luck!

Do you use a 2 or 3 mm prong? My Pyrenees has thick fur around her neck.

I love walking my Great Pyrenees 140 pound intact male . He is a perfect gentleman but I would hate walking him if I had to use treats/bribery instead of our great relationship to have his cooperation.

My Great Pyrenees is "great" on a lead (pun intentional). She stops at the slightest lead pressure and can even be controlled by a toddler. However, we only allow the toddler to walk Serena within our fenced in property and only with close supervision. I was walking Serena on my property when a bunny erupted out of some undergrowth. Serena ran for the bunny but, stopped as soon as the lead became taunt.

In the Pyrenees Mountains, the shepherds would traditionally not feed their flock guardian dogs. These dogs would hunt for their own foods - such as rabbits.@@OffGridDogs

Try gerber meat sticks (yes the baby kind). My guy is not a very big eater but loves the meat sticks for clicker training
@semiautomatic.companion3 жыл бұрын
Try freeze dried meat dog treats. they can be broken really small and are more nutritional for your dog. If your dog just isn't food motivated, try other things. Try rewarding with a toy or some play, or even just giving affection.

What if your dog has 0 interest in food. I've tried EVERY single food item. Jerky,steak,turkey, hot dog chicken 😩😩😩😩i love him but he may be my last Pyrenees
@ab9353 жыл бұрын
Does he like to get brushed? That can be a good treat. If your dog is not food motivated you have the holy grail for a guard dog. This is the trait that is very important for a guard dog, yet few dogs have it.

You are welcome. Crazy story, when I first adopted Wulife we were driving to the beach one morning. While we were stopped at a red light, unbeknownst to me he was fixated on a flock of ducks off in the grass. Thankfully he was fastened to the harness and seatbelt, he jumped out of my car (window was only down half way). I quickly put the car in park and ran to him, he was just suspended an inch above the ground, still fastened to the seat belt which was then dangling over the outside of the car. I was able to unclip him and get him back into the car safely. I know for sure this seat belt is strong and durable. I am so grateful it held up as I know for sure it would have been a bad situation that day with the cars and the potential to run off.
@WingsAsEaglesMinistries4 жыл бұрын
All Four Paws of WPB wonderful example and for all of us who have GP’s , this seatbelt could come in handy !! Thanks so much for sharing 😊 btw this belt could help any dogs but I was referring to GP has a mind of their own most of time .

Excellent video. I have another question that maybe you can help me with. My full GP is huge and as you know , they like to roam. GP’s think the world is theirs to guard lol Anyway have you ever tried the invisible fence ? I think they would be awesome but ours has so much hair on his neck , I had my doubts it would work as I figure the hair wouldn’t allow the collar to teach him the boundary line..it would be nice to have a fence without having an actual fence .... do you have any thoughts on that ? Thank you for your advice and vids
@jeng1513 жыл бұрын
I’m not a trainer, just a Pyr owner, and my vet, my dog’s trainer and his kennel staff have all told me an invisible fence will NOT contain a Pyr. Mine is 7 yrs old now- and I fully agree. We had a physical fence put in instead when he was a pup. They’re just so headstrong. I have a friend whose Pyr climbs her physical fence and escapes- so she always goes out with him now. They can be a challenge to contain- but they are still big sweethearts.

Stay can be a bit challenging. The key is small steps starting with just taking a half a step away and repeating it 10 or 15 times before making it more difficult for the dog.
