Greetings Rosario & Your Followers, The use of ashes rather than dust on Ash Wednesday has its roots in biblical symbolism and traditions of penance and mourning. While the phrase "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return" comes directly from the Bible, the practice of using ashes has significant biblical precedents. Old Testament References: Genesis 3:19: "By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return." Job 42:6: "Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." Daniel 9:3: "Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes." Jonah 3:6: "When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth, and sat down in the dust/ashes." New Testament Context: Matthew 11:21: "Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes." The use of ashes as a symbol of repentance and mourning is well-documented in the Old Testament. The act of covering oneself in ashes was a way of expressing humility and sorrow for sins. While the phrase from Genesis uses "dust," the tradition of using ashes became more prominent in the context of penance and fasting. The ashes used on Ash Wednesday are made from the burned palm branches from the previous year's Palm Sunday. This connects the act of repentance with the celebration of Christ's triumphal entry into Jerusalem, creating a continuous liturgical cycle. In the early Church, those who committed grave sins would undergo a period of public penance, often marked by the imposition of ashes, before being reconciled with the Church. Over time, this practice became more widespread and formalized, leading to the modern observance of Ash Wednesday. God Bless.

Appreciate your gesture in putting with scriptures..but cannot digest the Truth of Repentance of Baptism and not with ashes wether it comes from palm leaves or dead bones. Old testament Repentance was with dust & ashes ( ashes not from palm leaves) was allowed as perfect Sacrifice of Christ was not done. Today we have Repentance of believing and accepting Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior in adult water Baptism of Repentance where one can really repent and go in water. Traditions doesn't save us but Jesus Christ do save us if we follow His teaching.

Gal 4:26 talks about free woman( Sarah) and Bond woman.( Hagar) connecting to mount Sinai for bondage and Jerusalem for freedom . Worldly mothers play very important role in Worldly life but in Godly life there is One God( Father ,Son & Holy Spirit) no ther name. With all your Soul, Strength and Mind worship one God.
