I heard a recording of this song on Spotify and had it added to a Playlist. The singers were perfect. However, one day the songs just disappeared and because the group's name was in German, I couldn't for the life of me remember it. However, they sound very VERY similar to the ones in the recording, and theyre German to boot. What are the singers' names?

Does anyone know about Bach taking some inspiration from this piece to compose its Thema Regium variations? I see some similarities, but could be just coincidence from the chromaticism.

Wow, A lot of Mieren-neuken over the vent holes in the comments. Lovely playing. Whilst I love watching Monsieur Madeuf playing with no holes as much as the next person, I still find the tuning unbearable. Valveless trumpets with vent holes are, IMHO, still the best compromise in a world where we have got used to modern temperaments and tuning. Unless we're going to wind back the clock in period performance to a time where we can retune everything to fit better with a harmonic series produced with no vent-holes, then its going to be tough to sell me on the benefits of hole-less trumpets.
@bobbarclay86832 жыл бұрын
True, the baroque music factory has to use equal temperament, but that's no excuse for telling lies about your instruments. These are not natural trumpets, and it is disingenuous bordering on deceitful to brand them as such. Have you read my book "Henry VIII's Motorcycle"? It's a great read, even though I say so myself. In fact, it should be required reading for music students.

Far too slow and not lively enough! Let the man retire and get a healthy conductor who can conduct this music with the spirit it deserves! This is a ballet, not funeral music.

This is, by far, the most sublime, beautiful music that has ever been composed (monteverdi and Dowland, 2nd and 3rd) The orchestration and voices are at complete unity. And the orchestration!!! Beyond words. The deftness, the uniqueness, the otherworldly quality, the transcendence, the interchangeable joy and sorrow. If more people listened to rameau we would live in an infinitely better world. Rameau makes mozart look lame, forced and ponderous. Richard strauss once said that rameau was the greatest composer who ever lived. And he quotes him (from les indes galantes) in his final opera capriccio

Those a baroque trumpets, a modern invention utilizing fingerholes. Natural trumpets don’t have these.
@donny40382 жыл бұрын
fingerholes do not make it like a modern valved trumpet as far as ease of hitting notes, it is simply to fix tuning of the natural harmonic series.
@thadhorner51295 жыл бұрын
Those are not Natural Trumpets in the video. They are the Vented Trumpet, or so-called "Baroque" Trumpet, which was actually invented after the Baroque Period ended. When you see a player holding the trumpet with ONE hand, upright in the "Heroic" pose, that is the true Natural Trumpet, the trumpet which was actually played in the Baroque Period. The Vent Holes were added later, as a concession to make this very difficult instrument easier to play in tune.
@musicalaviator3 жыл бұрын
And not even "A little" later. The Baroque period is typically said to end around 1750 give or take a few years, and the vented "Baroque" trumpet was invented in oooh about 1950. So only 200 years late.
@bobbarclay86832 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is disingenuous bordering on deceitful to brand them as natural trumpets. Have you read my book "Henry VIII's Motorcycle"? It lays out the history of vent hole developments and calls out the liars for what they are. It's a great read, even though I say so myself.

The lyrics of the rondeau (39'25) "Forêts paisibles" : Forêt paisibles, Jamais un vain désir ne trouble ici nos cœurs. Ah ! Peut-on être heureux, Quand on forme d’autres vœux ?
