Andy!!! Dear lord, you sound great. Rich Tapper here -- trumpet player a couple of years younger than you at Camp Encore about 1/2 century ago. I'm sharing this with my 18 yo alto sax playing son, Micah. And telling him I knew you when you were 16 and dating the prettiest girl in camp...Don't disappoint him, will you? Pretend that you remember me well..(!). You're just killing it, as usual. I feel kind of like a stalker, but I've followed your career with great joy. Time goes too fast, for sure.

Rich, you're too kind! And you're absolutely right, time does fly, Encore Coda was somehow a lifetime ago! Have a great holiday, and tell your son to practice hard 😉

@AndySnitzer1030 Thank you for your artistry and inspiration over the years. Not only have I absorbed this episode with Everette Harp many times, but also many of your posts (many times!). You have a huge and expressive tone (on both alto & tenor) … and wonderful lines. I wish you many more rapturous musical moments. hug 🫂 from the road Dr D

Big element with Trevor James- Dave Farley is designing the RAWs. Yes, manufactured in Taiwan and set-up in Kent, but I think the quality comes from Dave, and from the team soliciting input from pro players and techs.

So interesting; I cannot flutter tongue anymore! Used to, but when I came back to horn after a 13 year lapse, it just doesn’t work!😂 Huge, gorgeous tenor tone, Richard!

I felt that my Custom Z was too focused, almost monophonic. The TJ SC is spread, so complex and full. I do like a focused alto, though, and am happy with my Yamaha YAS-275 alto. Andy, hard rubber can scream, at least on alto. My Wanne Amma is modern and powerful.

Jeff is so kind; emailed with me before I decided on buying the Trevor James, also convinced me to get my C414 mic. One of my favorites and a great guy!❤

I L❤VE this! I’m not quite in your guys’ league, but I love gear talk and I’m really proud to be a fellow TJ SC RAW endorsing artist. Andy, Kim, Steve, and Jeff; and Sandro is awesome!

Hello Andy, I'm a Juliano from Brazil, I really admire your work, I have a question, how do you get that growl sound at the beginning of the song, in medium pitch notes, this is very characteristic of your sound, is there a video where you explain it? Can you give any tips on this, it doesn't seem like a common growl to me, sorry if I said it wrong because here in Brazil we have other names for this effect.
@andysnitzer1030 Жыл бұрын
Hi Juliano, so this is the Sanborn split note kind of thing. It works on certain pitches, certainly not all. It's achieved by opening your throat and changing the angle of the mouthpiece at the same time. Hard to teach without being in the same room, but that's what it's about 👍

imho, the airstream should be exhaled, not blown. like without the horn in your mouth, you're exhaling, as if to make the sound "haw" while you do it. your lips aren't even in the equation, nothing is "blown", it's pure exhale, diaphragm driven. you've got this!
