SOLVED: because I have to work with a printer thats not connected straight to the PC, I have to save the PDF file itself. But once the PDF panel shows you can choose: More settings, and there I had to change the paper file from letter to A4 as well. Now its correct!

It is definitely possible to search your inventory in trial mode. Contact customer service about this.

From the menu, choose Tools, Customize, Fonts and then increase the font size shown in the Font size used in Font list option. The other option is the change the size in the Font List -- adjust the slider to the right to increase the font size. You can also drag the right side of the window to make the window wider. Calibrating is for print and cut projects. It won't do anything for other types of projects. The "recommended" settings are just a starting point. Every machine is slightly different and different factors will affect the cut settings. You will have to experiment to find the ideal settings for your machine for each material type. The best is to write them down so you will remember for next time. Also, different blade types will work differently. There have been some problems with some autoblades.

You will have to test because different machines have different options. I have a Puma GCC cutter and it allows me to choose "from origin" or WYSIWYG. I use from origin which starts cutting at the point of my blade. Click the cutter button and the program will preview how it will cut.

Vinyl is a material whereas Pen or Cut are actions. The action you would choose for the material vinyl is probably Cut.

This is very logical. The reason it doesn't work the way you want is because you are working with 2 different file types. Your PNG file is an image and your square is a vector. You might be able to edit your image in Silhouette Studio, but that will depend on how it was created. To try, choose Object, Convert to Path. Then Release Compound Path. Then create a rectangle for the final size you want the partial image. Then use Object, Modify, Crop. If it works, you will have to do that twice with the different sections to get your 2 parts. If it doesn't work, you will have to use an image editing program to crop your image to the desired measurements first. You can search Google for image editing programs. There are free ones and paid ones. You don't need that 15x15 square. Once you have your image in the shapes you want, in Silhouette Studio, you will have to set them as print and cut designs. You can see it in the Title bar of the program -- this was SCAL5 Pro. SCAL6 will also have the function.

@@SDIVADesigns only the Pro 6 version has Print+Cut, the regular version 6 doesn't.

It has multiple functions that let you manipulate your pieces in a manner similar to the Slice function in Cricut Design Space, but they give you SO many more options.

On the left side of your screen, you will see there are standard shapes provided with Cricut Design Space. One of the shapes available is a square. This video was made before those shapes were part of DS. I just used one of the shapes I had in images I already owned. When DS came out, I owned over 200 Cricut cartridges, many of which contained basic shapes. I always had access to those shapes and images in DS.

There are bugs in Silhouette too and I have seen this problem before. Let me check my group for this and I will write back.

These are very obvious, I'm sorry, but I will ask anyway just in case. Have you unzipped the file? Are you running the Designer or Business edition of the software? Are you sure it's enabled? I do see many comments about this problem in my group, but the above have always fixed the issue. I would try installing another version of the software. You might need to update or use an older version. The version you're using could be conflicting with something in your system.

@@SDIVADesigns I understand the questions. Yes, the file is unzipped and I'm using the Designer edition. This is the first and only SVG I have come across like this. I paid and downloaded two SVG files that day...one opened fine, but the other did not. I've been using Windows 10 and Version 3 for over 5 years now. No issues except this one file. Thanks for answering my questions. As long as this is the only issue I come across, I am still not ready to upgrade. Thanks again!

@@maryax6139 I understand your hesitation about upgrading, but if you save all your files on your hard drive rather than only in the library, it is safe to try version 4 and then return to your current version if it doesn't work out for you. Just be sure you have the install file for the version you are using now on your computer so you can install it again after uninstalling the version you don't like. The reason you should save your files to your computer is because there have been horror stories about people losing all their files when they save only to the library. Personally, I only save files to the library if I want the convenience of having them right there and only if I have saved them to my hard drive first.

@@SDIVADesigns I so enjoy your advice...I'm not computer illiterate but I'm not of your caliber either...I do save my files to my hard drive but not because I planned it that way. Since I have not upgraded from V3, the files that I purchase won't automatically download to my library. So, I have to save them to my hard drive and then open them from there. This is unfortunate since they come in without the thumbnail version of what they are. Now, I do save my own personal files to my hard drive and have from the beginning. That alone is a great reason for me to bite the bullet and upgrade. I'm giving it serious thought since we have had this discussion. I'll let you know if it goes well...I'm just too dang lazy to learn a new program...LOL
