1969islander sloop solo,, no engine for two years of West Coast and Mexico. In the late 90,s. Tough boat hand laid fiberglass, got bounced a few times of reefs and one Jetty. Only scratched the gelcoat. Steady High was her name. I miss her. Sailing on and Amen

I'm 46, with a similarly age wife, and your gray hair gives me hope. I recently had a life altering medical issue lay me low for the first time in my life and while in the hospital bed I had ample time to think. I've always wanted to get on a sailboat and head south to the Caribbean but it thought the time had passed and I was too old. It's good to see more mature adults making videos as they sail the high seas. Thank you! Thank you for your time and effort and for the mental reinforcement. I will be on the water very soon!

It's never too late to chase your dreams! I’ve always said, “live it while you have it, you don’t know how long it will last.”
@DLBard-bv2nd3 күн бұрын
I'm concerned for your bike sitting on the stern. Most don't do well on deck with ocean air and sea spray. I have better luck with a folding bike that can be sprayed with a protective product and stowed below in a zipped waterproof bag. Ikea sells such a bag online it's called the "Dimpa" bag. Cost is $11.00 that's a great deal. I bought a dozen as they are great for other things you need to keep dry below on the boat. Fair winds & following seas. S/V Cork~Texas🇺🇸
@CaptainJimHammond3 күн бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I have had folding bikes in the past and don’t really like them. I rinse this one down from time to time and coat it with a spray protectant. Hopefully it will last.

Passage making is the key, I know your boat is 36ft LOA with a 6+/-foot differential LWL; small for “off soundings “ . In future get across the GS due south of ME. Weather warmer within 200 miles COG; ETA 🇧🇲. Spend time when weathered in on, the beach. Leaving Bermuda heading due SSE to the East end of the Bahamas Channel, warm sailing, breeze on the Starboard quarter, shifting east, then your choice when you reach the channel🎉
@CaptainJimHammond3 күн бұрын
I'll keep that in mind for the next trip!

I like sailing, but it would be more cool to travel and tour overseas by modern blimp over all the crappie seas and weather. New modern blimps can carry heavy weight at 74 knots or higher altitudes for even more. No one has toured that way, hovering over land or sea!
@CaptainJimHammond12 күн бұрын
Blimping sounds great! I made my living flying for 23 years, but never thought about touring “lighter than air.” I like sailing, and with no motor, because of the rawness of it. Plus the added benefit of no ATC.

Looks like your boat anchored off Buckroe beach in Hampton. Are you ok? There are much better anchorages nearby.
@CaptainJimHammond16 күн бұрын
Hey! Yes, that’s me. All is well. Just waiting for the weather. I normally anchor in Willoghby Bay, but this time I wanted easy in, easy out. I’ll be leaving tomorrow morning (10/19/24) and be able (touch wood) to go outside, nonstop to Brunswick, GA. This isn’t the best anchorage, but it’s a lot better than Fleming Key (Key West) with a strong wind out of the north, and no worse than Sandy Hook with a blow from the west. I love my over-sized Rocna anchor. Plus the holding here is great. Thanks for reaching out!
