I met Dr. Moffit in Jax,Fla. after he retired. I joined his community band in 2000 after a very long layoff from my trumpet. He gave me some practice sheets I still use today, helped me get my chops back for sure. He was a very nice man and we had fun in his band.

Starting at 3:05, now I see what it looks like when white people try to do the FAMU fast marching
@docl.irving49948 жыл бұрын
terrible...... lines are meant to be straight...... using a 5 man squad has no bearing..... U of H should have done this better....patterns in motion was based on 8 to 5 marching..... what is going on here....

A great show dedicated to an outstanding band director-Dr. Bill Moffitt. Rest in Peace Sir.

There is no comparison between TxSu and U of H. TxSu is very entertaining and will all black people dancing out of their seats. While U of H is boring as hell. They should should only play other white schools and leave the HBCU's alone.
@neicy68411 жыл бұрын
Don't it twisted. TxSu is in a different class of bands than U of H. TxSu is a HBCU (HIstorically Black College and University). They r in the same class as Southern University. U of H band will NEVER be as good as TxSu. U of H has too many white people with no rhythum at all.

@Hitamaru thats a little harsh dude. like the other guy told you the spirit of houston is made up of the band, the cheer squad and the dance team. so therefore everyone gets a chance to do something at halftime. u of h isnt a competition band. they use to do competitions in the past but they had to move with the times especially keep up with their neighbors rice university and texas southern university. cause rice and tsu gets more exposure cause they are different so u of h had to do something

@TheDragonmaster18 This Fieldshow bored me to sleep : / Ohio State is a pretty good band, more white bands should emulate them. rest jus straight trash
@TheDragonmaster1813 жыл бұрын
@Hitamaru yes it was. u of h cares more about the entertaining aspect of marching band. college marching bands were made to entertain people at football games not bore them to death with music they dont know. u of h like a lot of white college bands have added some showstyle aspect to their shows and there is nothing wrong with that.

@musicalcougar Still wasn't an amazing field show :I.

@Hitamaru The Spirit Of Houston is made up of the band, cheer, and cougar dolls (the dance team) that name is for all of us not just the band. the scatter at the beginning is just how we get onto the field dont get upset about something you have no idea about
@storm14k14 жыл бұрын
@mrschlittle Actually this is a clip of the band of the director that wrote Patterns in Motion.

@mbell985 it was very entertaining at all... It was boring, i mean some parts of was interesting. If we wanted unity we'd watch ONE band do a fieldshow not two bands. Its who's best and who deserves the top spot, go big or go home! We want some competition, sure after its all over two bands will acknowledge each others hard work.
@mbell98514 жыл бұрын
@Hitamaru As someone in that "wanna be scatter band" I think you're missing the point. It was not a battle of the bands, it was two schools coming together (although not in this video) and providing entertainment and unity through music. All to often people get caught up in differences (like labels such as PWC and HBCU) and can't see the commonalities we share. Besides even though UH is a "PWC," the band is not. It is very diverse. Band is about fun and entertaining and that's what went down.
@Hitamaru14 жыл бұрын
@347826able ... very few times a PWC will go against a HBCU. JSU went against MSU
@Hitamaru14 жыл бұрын
Southern Half Time Show was like 300 times better that wanna be scatter band at the beginning isn't cute at the beginning. why were cheerleaders with the band.... It was really sloppy and they dropped one girl. It was an ok field show i guess

This is an important video!! Dr. Moffits's own band performing the Patterns in Motion concept of marching band show design. Dr. Moffit incorporated traditional style with his new concepts of slants, stacks, etc. to create geometric designs. I hope UH keep this clip. This style was used all over the country during the 60's and 70's before the corps style came back in fashion. Thanks for sharing.
