I had to stop watching after 46 seconds!. You want to talk about a wallet that can take a beating - DON'T BUY an i8 then! I've owned an E39 M5 for 3 years, an E60 M5 for 3 years, which was such a terrible (sarcasm!) car that I immediately purchased a V10 M6 and run that for 3 years!. The E39 had 154k miles when I sold it. The E60 had 121k miles on it when I sold it and the E63 M6 had 75k miles on it when I sold it. And then, I told myself that I was sick of owning (so called) expensive to run cars, so I bought an i8!. I mean, the i8 only has 3 cylinders, just how expensive can it be to run!? Well, luckily, at the petrol/gasoline pump, the i8 is a lot cheaper to run than the M5/6, but when it goes wrong...........vs an M6 it is OFF THE CHARTS!............ I've had a few "small" things go wrong which would have cost me nearly £5000 to repair if I didn't pony up and buy the full comprehensive warranty after forking out over £1500 for two rear shock absorbers - on a 21k miles car!. But the thought of how much the i8 can cost if it goes wrong has left me devoid of enthusiasm and terrified of the car!. Do you know that, if the Air Conditioning compressor 5h!t5 itself, your staring at a £12-25k repair bill!? If the main battery 5h!t5 itself your looking at a £10k repair bill!? And the thing is - a lot of people say "well, if the main battery fails you still have the engine, no?"...........well, the answer to that is...........NO YOU DON'T. You see, the engine does not use the traditional starter motor found on regular cars. It uses a 400v starter/generator mounted on a pendulum which is either used to start, propel or charge the car depending on the driving mode you use. There is no toothed flywheel for the starter to engage, it's a serpentine drive belt attached to the crank pulley. If the 400v battery fails, the engine cannot be started. So, do you still want an i8 now?

Worst gearbox in history ?? nope, totally wrong there, bad set up ( US gearbox tune) and drivers who do not understand how to drive it. The reason cars like this loose so much value is in a big part due to badly informed videos like this. Your missing the point of what the car, moaning about the failures and unreliability yet it had covered 200k kilometers ?? well loved is the point. Too many buy these do not look after them with preventive maintenance. Your video get a zero score me !

That transmission is literally the reason this car is so fun, besides the engine of course. By shifting it in its most aggressive setting, you re not only going to have way more fun than in a boring, smooth dual clutch, but even more than in a manual one. This engine is simply not meant to be coupled to a manual transmission, it is too easy revving and the shifting action is no way near as intense. I get that it s expensive to maintain, but I'd do it anyway just for the sake of driving one of the most brutal and full of character cars ever made

Couldn’t you use thinner bearings or thinner oil maybe to help with rod bearings from needing to be replaced?
