I am convinced that their greatest triumph was definitely the Life Is Killing Me release some 2 decades ago. No question about that 👌 Blows away everything else with his choice of songs and that it shows Peter’s sense of humour in his lyrical style while still keeping the Doomsday vibe ala: Sabbath and the Swans both in there for good measure. Just from their opening riff til they end the album; it’s a masterpiece put quite simply and dare I say; even better than the Bloody Kisses release of 1993. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your collection with all of Us and it would mean a lot to me personally if you’d put the 2nd Carnivore album from 1987: Retaliation up on your channel; as they had been fans of Our band as well and I got the opportunity to open up for them around the New York ( Lower East Side, Brooklyn of course and a little place in the village called something or other place that I forget the name of; Club Babyhead in Providence, Rhode Island; The Rathskeller ( our old haunt now closed down from’97 sadly) Manray and the Middle East in Cambridge, Massachusetts alongside Jane’s Addiction on the 1988 Nothing’s Shocking World Tour just as Carnivore had started playing under the name of Type-O- Negative early on. We used to open up for Peter’s old band whenever he would ask. Every single time I got a call from him and he told Me he was doing a few gigs around the New York City’s Lower East Side; I didn’t even need to think about it. He too was a big fan of Our first two Lp’s back in the mid eighties when Coroner’s Office and The Missing Link Ep came out. Pete was really cool about most things and he was really one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in this filthy business called the music industry and I knew he’d felt that same way about it too. He kept his day job as a waste management driver for purposes of keeping himself grounded he said, and besides? He’d miss the guys who he worked with too much. He would laugh after he said that, but I think there was a kernel of truth behind it also. Take it easy Pete, you’re most certainly not forgotten about. That’s for damned sure, okay man? They’re a lot more like Carnivore here than they would turn into adding a bit more of that Retaliation album from 1987’s flavour on this release than the rest of their material from the Bloody Kisses Lp- onward up until Peter’s death in 2010. Tracks off of their debut even had that same Brooklyn attitude versus the world over what would soon be much more of a Goth meets Black Sabbath seeing as how they were one of Steele’s favorites alongside the hardcore brunt of Black Flag and it was still a helluva lot much more heartfelt when he decided to move in that direction as well. Most fans would remain ignorant of such numbers like Jesus Hitler; Suck My Dick or Jack Daniel’s and Pizza lol; in fact I was only aware of their earlier work following one or my own experiences opening up for them at some very limited gigs. Pete was a fan of my older band’s Lp entitled The Missing Link Ep from 1987 himself and asked for Us personally to do a few shows around the NYC area clubs so naturally we couldn’t refuse him being such a nice guy like he was and he really was that kind of a person who would give you the skin off his back; let alone his skin. He wasn’t even remotely close to being what he sounded like in the press or the song numbers either. In fact he had a great sense of humour in real life, but in a lot of pain as far as women he had been involved with went also. Whoever knew he was such an enormous Swans fan himself who used to write as he’d be driving around in the garbage truck. He was the only guy in that top percentage of artists that kept his day job that he said he was perfectly happy to stick with even if in 1993 he could’ve easily done so with the release of Bloody Kisses soon to reach the point that Nirvana’s Nevermind was at upon its first month of sales! Weird said some that he’d keep his job as well the profession itself most people would say; but Peter didn’t care if you thought much of anything but that his music was up to par. Yes. This set of shows we were a part of I’d gotten to know him more than most of the other bands playing whenever his act came to town and he would call me and ask if we were available to play with them and I would tell him Of course I would Pete. Greatly missed and highly respected band in the late’80’s they’ve always been one of the heaviest acts to come out of hiding. Carnivore- Retaliation is the only one I really enjoyed and it was always in my cassette player back then and up until now as much as it used to be back then. Hope you’re finally at peace Pete.
