I visited back in 1996, and if you let your imagination take over, you can visualize living at Biltmore. Truly a magnificent estate. And to think only three people lived there, not including servants.

All those fireplaces & the house is still standing. Maybe the central heating helped. Good your.

I didnt know Biltmore was built by the Vanderbilts. Is Anderson Cooper involved in any way with the running of this magnificant estate?

And I was younger like a member many many times going to The Abbey to eat in Atlanta Georgia this why I live pretty much my young life it was originally I think on West Peachtree but they moved it it was an old church and the latest were like they look like monks I look like a monastery the way this were dressed in their Monastery monk outfits the rest of us the menu was on Scrolls ever yeah the food was spectacular The Abbey is still there as a matter of fact but they relocated it somewhere else in Atlanta and I'm not quite sure but yeah I remember those days very much.

While the house may seem big, keep in mind there were many more than just three people living there. The maids, the cooks, the butlers, the grounds keepers, the chuffers, and so on. Not to mention guests that stayed also brought their own servants as well. The entire estate was designed to be a working residence, thus it's more akin to a hotel than a house.

If he met Warren Buffet in time, he wouldn't build it. Buffet is obviously happier, knowing that he sleeps 8 hours a day.

The place was beautiful when I visited. Loved the pool that was under the house. Their is a chess set that was Napoleon Bonaparte, that was purchased.

wow and this is Anderson Cooper's grandparents house....and he had the nerve to say he knows better then the American people and we r stupid and he's just a hard-working stiff like the rest of us.....omg I hate the talking heads on CNN and msm
@diwi1942

Well, you are stupid because Anderson has nothing to do with this house. Its owned by the Cecil family, a different branch of the Vanderbilt legacy. Its privately owned by them not Anderson's side of the Vanderbilt family. Anderson earns his own money. His mother created her own wealth with fashion.

a humongous house for just three family members and 100+ servants??? Is that really what you call home? hm....I rather have a smaller house....it will definitely be creepy at night...

Remember this was built during the gilted age 100 plus years ago. A whole different lifestyle. Once Cornelia left she never returned. Her ex husband saved the estate from falling into ruin. Its privately owned by the Cecil family, great grandson of George.

If I remember from a tour this was a "cheap" version compared to other Vanderbilt homes. George didn't inherit as much as other family members since his job was to take care of his mother. I would love to see The Breakers one day, that was a Vanderbilt home but no longer in the family.

That was nice of that church to give some free stamps to people going to the post office. This video was from 2010. BUT this video is applicable for next year, too. Postage increases by 1 cent to 46 cents on January 27th. Maybe this church will do this again at their local postal office because some people will forget that postage rate increase on January 27, 2013. One good thing is that USPS will offer a GLOBAL forever stamp that can be sent anywhere in the world for flat rate of $1.10.

You can now take pictures when you tour but no flash photography. It used to be not allowed. I have many pics of the interior. If you're ever in the area its well worth the expense to see it.
