So this thing is a fusion between a mod sampler and an old 90s akai sampler? People would kill for this in the 90s. you can basicaly make every 90s dance music with this.

I remember a time when Reason had a lousy sound engine and no support for VSTs. I'm old!(ง •̀灬•́)ง Amazing work, especially with the vocals and stabs!!
@nautical_twilight
@nautical_twilight 4 ай бұрын
Hah! I don't think there was any validity for the "bad sound engine" claim right? I recall someone addressing this on the Reason anniversary stream a couple of months ago. I don't know, I was a kid and pirating Reason in high school. I guess everything sounded awesome to me back then!
@stjepan_8902
@stjepan_8902 4 ай бұрын
@@nautical_twilight I agree, for that time, it wasn't bad at all. It was a beast of a daw, even back then. But Cubase and Ableton had consistently better sound until version 5 came out. And that was a loong time ago.
@TheXraycat
@TheXraycat 3 ай бұрын
Big thanks mate. I struggled moving to daws years back. The only logical daw to work with was reason ,because of the experience I had with hardware. It just made sence in reason so I stuck with it . I think reason 3 or 4 was my first copy . I have upgraded over the years and hated 6 when it integrated record . But I still stuck with it. I haven't noticed any massive sound changes improvements in reason . But I have heard it sounded bad loads of times over the years. To me it seems fine and sounded better than working on an old mixer or a tracker years before. Alot of releases I had on early versions of reason , got professionally mastered in the end. I would get my mix as clean as possible in reason and send it off to mastering.
@stjepan_8902
@stjepan_8902 3 ай бұрын
@@TheXraycat That's amazing! Tbh, I'm not sure if people thought it sounded bad because they were misusing it, or it was objectively less 'clean' than other popular daws. I think that people who worked with hardware probably knew how to tweak Reason to make it sound great. The rest of us probably used it quite ignorantly, which made it sound more 'reason-like', I guess. I started straght in a daw, and with a messy setup, so no wonder my mixes sounded bad. That's probably the root cause of my bias. Luke Vibert also used early versions of Reason a lot, and his tracks from that time still sound great. He also worked with hw and mpcs before moving to a daw.

@TheXraycat
@TheXraycat 4 ай бұрын
Thanks mate. I have made jungle/hardcore/breaks for a long long time. I got most from sampling or sample cds over the years. You could use a search engine these days . Type in some of these .... amen break / rave stabs / hardcore/stabs / jungle sample pack/ pads / zero g data file / jungle warfare/ jungle jungle pack / 909 samples / 808 samples . Sample old tunes of youtube or anything . You can actually split vocals from instrumental these days from your own mp3 collection. See what you can get your hands on. The real business is what you do with the sample in the track to make it your own and sound authentic. Music Mondays has some excellent packs to buy ( I highly recomend) :)

Yes I hope for a cut and fade and copy in the sample editor. I use renoise redux usually and you can map multiple samples across the keys . So that's handy . But on the other hand with the simplicity of amigo it takes lots of options away and makes creativity flow.
@farben_
@farben_ 4 ай бұрын
@@TheXraycat I mainly use Amigo for the 1 finger chords as I've always wanted to try that old school technique. There's definitely room for improvement while keeping it simple, I personally didn't find the sound that convincing, if you check some Amiga mod files or samples they sound much richer, I think they went too far with the lo-fi but others may disagree.

@@farben_ yeah the amiga paula chip can't really be recreated . But I used protracker/noisetracker on ste more and it's the same . You would have to analyse a strait recording from the amiga and eq or some sat on your the master bus to try get that warm fulness of that paula

so have you programed this break or is it just a sample break from a record ?
@TheXraycat
@TheXraycat 4 ай бұрын
The track contains 3 breaks. The first main break is kid&play . I have manually timed it to the bpm of the project (165) and resampled multiple times to make my edits. I placed the breaks and chopped from my preferred start points within the sampler. I mapped a few hits further up the keys over an octave so I could do some transposing of snares. I also used akizer out of the box on a few edits. Phasing fx are all done by doubling the notes on the piano roll. Second break is from jungle wf and is a rex put in a kong. I triggered the rex from different hits spread over the pads. I automated any pitch fx with the pitch wheel. The amen was timed to the project and bounced to a wav. I arranged the pattern using audio. I made a combinator with a comb filter with a res and automated it to make the amen more interesting. Hope my wafflings are helpful mate ;)
@miguelrocha6751
@miguelrocha6751 5 ай бұрын
Proper! Do you always chop the breaks inside kong?
@TheXraycat
@TheXraycat 5 ай бұрын
I sometimes repitch the breaks out of reason using renoise. I some times cut the break in 8ths and then drag them on the beat so it's totally tight. You can do also this by bouncing to rex and doing it in a rex player. I then resample the timed break multiple times (say six times) then you have enough instances for doing your chops edits in the Kong using the sample editor. I do similar when using the nnxt . I use redux vst these days as it is definitely the best I found for breaks.
