Thank you, I'm doing the Nakahechi route in January. I'm just concerned about the bus stop, between Chikatsuyu and Hongu, I'm going to take a route deviation in order to take a bus. But you know something about the tickets or the schedule? Thank you so much

Interesting pack. I hadn't seen it before. One thing I found for overnight or longer trips is that a slightly heavier pack with a good hip belt is more comfortable for me than a lighter pack without a good hip belt.

Hi! Do ypu think it is necessary to bring an axe and shoe spikes? Also, do you think a 30 liter bag would be enough? Also may I know where in Shinjuku you bought the bag? Thanks!
@AlainStewart3 ай бұрын
Hi. Yes, if you're going to be climbing to any peaks while there is snow, I recommend crampons and an axe. With that said, I did manage to climb Chougatake in mid-Spring with microspikes however I don't think Chougatake is as steep or as high as the other peaks. 30 litre bag will do if you're staying in huts. I got my bag from a brand called Yamatomichi from the Kyoto store. I believe they sell to other distributors in Tokyo. Best of luck

Nice videos! Is the hiking track clearly visible for first timer? I mean do we can hike to this mountain without guide?
@AlainStewart4 ай бұрын
Yes, you can hike up with a guide. Can’t say how visible the track is when there’s no snow, but should be. There are normally tags on trees to indicate the track. Don’t need a guide, but I recommend doing some practice hikes if you’re new to this.

Alain I truly love your videos. They make me feel like I'm 20 again, on a hike with my friends... pretty much the best feeling ever. You've helped me get through a few long weeks of desk work, stoking the embers that will become my next hike, on my old man legs. Thank you!

Awesome hike. What time of year did the locals recommend is best for hiking there as far as weather and conditions?
@AlainStewart5 ай бұрын
All the info I got was from online, but my conclusion is that it will depend on you, with the exception of the winter season when the huts are closed. If just hiking around the Azusa river, I believe any time is suitable, but if you want to climb to the peaks and don't have the alpine gear or experience, then summer/Autumn (July to Nov) would be the safer season when all the snow has melted and you get more daylight.

Those warm lights from Tokusawa lodge would have been a welcome sight! 16:19 Nice to hear the lodge managers were so kind to a weary traveller, 12 hrs trekking in unknown terrain is a feat even for you Alain (don't doubt you've done more though). Would have been nice to walk with you for part of the way 🙂

Hi Alain. Great content! Thanks for sharing! How come you stopped using your Macpac Pulsar Plus Jacket? I use the Pulsar (not plus) and I've taken it everywhere around the world, and I'm now on my second Pulsar jacket. Is the Pulsar Plus toasty and warm in any Winter situation? (The specs make it sound like it's even warmer than the Rab Generator Alpine, and warmer than the Arc'teryx Nuclei SV which are the warmest synthetic each of those companies have.)
@AlainStewart5 ай бұрын
Hey Adam. Actually, I’m still using my pulsar plus for a number of years now - it’s one of my favourite jackets. Not the best for sitting around camp though (so I bring a down jacket too), but it’s good for when you’re on the move - not too hot and keeps out the chill.

I'm truly grateful that the google translate function exists and that many popular mountain huts are constantly updating their websites to be user-friendly. Sadly some huts still use the same interface as when they launched their websites in the 2000's and only accept reservations by phone.

Your green screen shows an Aussie park, but the elevator music gives your location away. Is it safe to cook in an urban elevator and how do you manage the passengers safety? PS The anodised aluminium pots may give you Alzheimers but if you're mountain climbing you probably don't need to worry about that.

Yea MT.Fuji is pretty rough if you don’t have a lot of experience and like super cold on top of the mountain like negative degrees if it’s summer if is so hot is Japan but I fell like ten times going down and the hotels are really uncomfortable but it’s worth it because you get a beautiful view and you get to say you climbed mt.fuji which not a lot of people get to say.

how does the Mont Moondance 1 Tent work?

Does the job well. Good utilisation of space inside. Can fit my partner in there too with me. Good weight too. Uses ground sheet, then poles, tent body then fly. Reliable tent but does get some condensation on the inside.
