I remember as a child listening to this song at the darkest point in my life. I would sit in my dark pitch black room and cry my eyes out I couldn’t have been no older than 13. Listening to this song now as a 25 year old I realized I need to give my younger self an apology l. I owe me that. I apologize to that 13 yr old girl who would overthink, have suicidal thoughts worry about her alcoholic dad, being taken advantage of, bullied by others and herself, caring and giving her heart to others instead of herself, never knowing what true happiness is, having more bad days than good. I’m sorry that u went through that. I’m sorry 13 year old me. I’m sorry 💔😔

I hope I do the right thing by my daughter, and they have a good foundation for future interactions with men. I love my girls so much that it often hurts.

I love the message here.....but also mothers and fathers need to be good to each other. That sends the biggest message to children...how their parents treat each other.

Ohk but he didn't mention mothers and fathers need to be good to their sons too.people seems to have this concept that boys are emotionally strong.but a son can actually be going through some stuff.

Nothing makes me cry like this song. Especially for us women that don't have a father to love us. My dad died when I was 8. So many moments of my life I needed my dad or good fatherly advice. To everyone that has a healthy and loving relationship with their father, cherish it!!

The bridge is the best and most meaningful verse in the song, especially the line "boys will be gone without a wonderful woman's good, good heart".

My dad died of a very unexpected heart attack right after my twelfth birthday back in 1990. This song gets me every single time. He didn't mean to leave me, but I've always felt left nonetheless.
