Im thinking of applying for a overnight position, and your video came in so handy so I appreciate it a lot 🙏🏽 I’m curious how did you adjust your sleep schedule? Cause I heard it’s a drastic thing to deal with 🤔
@dracoslayer5377 күн бұрын
Definitely go for it it’s a chill job! I adjusted by doing things really early in the day like going to the gym making food and then going to sleep at like 2-3pm so I can get up at 10pm to make my 11pm shift. I had already been an overnight worker at a bar prior so I have experience with this lifestyle, you’ll eventually adjust. Hope this helps 🤞🏾💯

Will be starting as an overnight associate next week at Walmart, just want to know on a scale of 1 to 10 how fast paced job is it? Like are 8 hours enough for a normal paced person to finish the task?😭
@dracoslayer53725 күн бұрын
Yea 8 is plenty time to get all of your work done, personally I would go hard for the first 4 hours get everything situated and most of it done then finish up and have a calm rest of your shift organizing cleaning and then maybe working back stock if you’re done early. The nights are a lot more enjoyable if you keep a good pace and grind pretty fast for the first couple of hours. Congrats on your new position man🔥🔒

It’s honestly the most I’ve ever enjoyed a job. I can listen to music and podcasts as much as I want, the process of stocking and trying to get faster at it is a lot of fun, and I get a respectable workout from all the lifting and walking.

My store “the big store” expects a box a minute once you clock in. I know your doing a video and talking but in my store your pace is bit slow and unrealistic. My boss wants a box a minute which is also unrealistic request when you consider staging ,scanning product if necessary for location, actual stocking of item , over stock breaking down boxes and clean up. (Not to mention fixing other stockers mistakes.)the math ain’t math n I came here to see someone morph! Like one of the stockers that make frate dissipate and then give away their secrets. Oh fooey
@dracoslayer53729 күн бұрын
I hear ya, it varies from store to store honestly, my store isn’t that big compared to others and like others been telling me they work at target, Walmart etc and those stores have a way different expectations than the one I’m at. I can work really fast and I have before but the demand for us it a bit lower since it isn’t that big of a store. I hope you’re getting paid well for a box a minute tho🤣💯

I worked overnights at Walmart a decade ago back when they were open 24 hours. We had some interesting people shop during that time. The work was nice and was awesome was you know the day was getting closer to ending when the sun started to rise. Plus when you left, the traffic was going one way and you were going the other. The managers there at the start were not bad but were not leaders as well. Before I left, the last manager was stupid. Constantly bossing everyone and threatening to fire you if you did not move faster. I watched countless of people, some who've become friends walk out because they could not take it anymore. Till this day, those managers have moved around stores but did not get promotions.

Something about being apart of the rat race is they assume the “system” will reward them for hard work and often times make other people’s experiences worse because of their own personal grievances and things they go through. At the end of the day we all want a good life and businesses that make work environments healthy for the workers often thrive more than the ones in which leaders act like dictators 📝

I have to make quotas of 42 crates per hour while having things look nice. Any tips?
@dracoslayer53729 күн бұрын
Spot the crates first, meaning put them in there respective places before you start to work, so you’re not running up and down the aisle. Next you want to stack boxes and anything non glass related to a decent height so you’re not bending down every minute, you’re back will thank you way down the line. Don’t go to fast because you will end up burning out, go at a smooth pace so you reach that flow state and you’re not really thinking just doing. If you’re listening to music put on a playlist, educational video, podcast etc and DON’T touch your phone. Changing songs and videos every minute is a big waste of time and it’ll hinder your progress. Try and keep your work area clean, as much as this is a physical job it’s a mental job too so things seem easier when you’re being productive and keeping good track of your plastic and cardboard that you need to dispose of later. Drink lots of water and eat well before you come in. Lastly just try to have fun, especially if you’re listening to music or podcasts etc, you’ll work better and faster when you are just flowing through the day/night and you’re enjoying the process. Hope these tips help and good luck on your job 🤞🏾❤️🔥

@dracoslayer537Ай бұрын
Usually everything is on a pallet and then we take everything off and spot them by putting them next to where they go on the shelf. Usually we have to do this ourselves but it can be different depending on where you work. Some places have boats with product in the aisles already, some you have to break down the pallets yourself which is what we do in a group of 4-5. Most nights for me the pallets take at least 45 mins to a hour on slow or regular nights. Appreciate the comment and it’s a chill job if you don’t mind the physical work. Ask if you can wear your own headphones, eat snacks during your shift, if you have breaks etc. Those things being allowed is why I like this job 💯🤞🏾

I spot in my pet isle and every other isle basically just work off the boat. One way to be faster is to stock the shelf and throw the boxes on the floor. Then pick them up after. I used to think 🤔 this was stupid because then you have to pick up all the boxes 📦 but at my new job it works sometime. Or you can break the boxes down as you go, whatever works for you. I find it tough to make everything come together with stocking, rotation, repacks, blocking and especially when you’re in charge doing temperature checks 2 or three times a night, answering phones 📞 accepting deliveries, opening the door 🚪 for morning shift and when the store opens, having to wait by the door while it’s open. I just want to stock and go home 🏠 I don’t want to be in charge of anything. One love ❤️ bro -MATTY ICE 🧊 FROM CONNECTICUT
@dracoslayer537Ай бұрын

Don’t you wish you could stock the shelf from the back and the customer can shop it from the front? It would help with rotation and blocking. I swear it’s 2024 you’d think the stores would be set up like that

That would be way better but how would that work, it would probably take a major design overhaul of the entire store and most stores won’t accommodate for the workers😭💯

I don't know hoe I found your video. I have not worked retail in over 30 years. My take away is this. Prep. By getting a place for empty cardboard and a bag or box for plastic. 1. Downstack your aisle. Product all goes in each shelving section. 2. Put your product out. 3. Pull product forward for each section as you move down the aisle. 4. If your store is closed at night, don't be afraid to make one mess and clean it up at the end. Save time and productivity where you can.
