Steven, great question. Typically locks and latches are a leaking point so they elected to forego the the locks/latches to keep water out and use a locker-bar for security

This IS the actual Champion performance hull AND cap. Charger WENT BACK to making the legendary Champion hull AND cap 100%. Don't take my word for it........go check it out for yourself.......because it's true. But the "slight differences" have NOTHING to do with "tweaking the hull" in any way. Differences like true 100% matching fiberglass consoles with NO plastic anywhere. And better "elevator button" type switches. They also got damn smart & put ALL pumps & fittings together in 1 easy to reach place, where ya don't have to remove anything else to get to em. Changing out a pump is a walk in the park now. I've already looked at em......and I'm VERY impressed with it.

The champion didn't make it because Randy Hopper did want them to make it. they did away with all marketing for them, slapped stratos emblems on them, and even went as far as to make certain models slower. plain and simple, the brand was killed purposely so as not to compete with ranger. putting the stratos emblems on a champ was a slap in the face. they might as well have put a walmart emblem on them.

I personally never owned a champion but I fished out of them before at state tournaments as a non-boater in the 90s. And being around tournament fishing for nearly 30 years I have similar questions. the boats that rode really well and that everyone raved about the rough water ride were the 80's and 90s model champions. From what I remember somewhere around the early 2000s champion was sold. Some kind of deal with Yamaha similar to what Skeeter did. Maybe i'm not sure it's been a long time. It's totally possible that I'm remembering that wrong but I remember the older models riding really well but they listed really bad when a couple of guys would move to one side or the other of the boat at the same time. This problem was corrected in the newer champions by widening the hulls out and the v was not as deep. these boats did not take the rough water near as good as the older models. But they had to do it to compete with the other manufacturers who were widening their hulls to create more stable fishing platforms and more storage. but you sacrificed your rough water ride. I would also like to know which hull this is designed after because there were different designs back in the day. You can't just say this is a true champion hull because there were different hull designs because I remember the guys bitching about it when they changed them.

He just stated in the video that LOCK BARS COME STANDARD. The built in locks on deck storage LEAK. Plus they can still be broken into by a thief. A thief doesn't care about "damaging your boat" when they take a crow bar to built in locks. So many guys are still buying & using lock bars in addition to the factory built in locks. It makes more sense to simply offer lock bars as STANDARD EQUIPMENT and ya have boxes that don't leak at all.
