2010 forester, 2.5 NA. Humming from the front end after 65KM/h, and then pitch and noise increase the faster you go. I replaced both of the front bearings and the noise is still there. Are you saying that its just the dust shields that are bad and that replacing the dust shields fixed your issue with this weird humming/oscillating at hwy speeds?
@stumpr13 күн бұрын
Not the dust shields, as they would make a higher pitch squeal, at all speeds. Do another roadtest, ON AN OPEN ROAD! Minimal traffic would be best. Get up to speed, 2 hands on the wheel and steer left and then right, at speed. BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT DO THIS IF U R UNSURE OF YOUR DRIVING SKILL. Steering L/R at speed will load and unload bearings. Does the noise change when doing this? If u steer right and the noise gets worse, it's a L/frt aera problem. If Left turn makes the noise worse, its the right frt area.

Check for any wear on the input shaft to see if it is worn where the seal rides. Also, check the input shaft for pitting or any burrs, anything that might cause the seal to snag or not, seal to the shaft. Does the seal fit snuggly on the shaft area? Do you have the right seal? Stumpr1
@lungbusteroutdoors47833 күн бұрын
@@stumpr1 well I just disassembled it again, this time under a lift which was so nice! The driveshaft yoke does have a polished line but no grooves or wear. Not sure if the polished line is normal but there is definitely no groove. There doesn’t seem to be any play in the shaft carrier bearing either. No noticeable play anywhere. I ordered the seals directly from Toyota. However I did read recently that if the seal isn’t properly seated deep enough into the extension housing, it may leak. The last seal I installed was definitely not properly recessed. So hopefully that’s the issue. I ordered 2 seals, if this doesn’t work I’ll be ordering a new yoke and doing it AGAIN. I can’t think of any other possible cause.

DASH lights, check them, are they VERY DIM! if possible, park in a garage with no lights on. Most things in these new vehicles TIME out after a specific time. Try the sit inside thingy. Seen this dash lights rear dim on other vehicles before, as in they never turn off. Very DIM lights, need a dark place.

Here's another thing to look at, The Instrument Cluster main wire connection. It is located at the top of the cluster, the pins and or the soldering gets damaged which cause loss of gauges and lights. The harness connects at the top of the cluster and is pulled 90 degrees to the right which puts a load of pressure on the cluster. Over time, the pins wear, even break away. Check that connection by pulling the cluster. Once you remove some of the dash, it's easy, you'll see the wire harness and get a good understanding of what i'm talking about. The cluster may need to be repaired or replaced. Wiggle that harness and see if the gauges/lights work. Stumpr1

Late reply, sorry. I think your problem is the Instrument Cluster. Where the main harness connects too it. This is located at the TOP of the cluster, these were a problem, as the PINS break and the solder fails. Which this is repairable. Remove cluster, or gain access to the top of the cluster and move the wire harness and see if the gauges fire up. I have fixed afew of these issues.

@@teresafarley4033 Just sounds like that Cluster connection. Wiggle that cluster connector with the key on. That harness is stretched right from the factory and that over time wears the pin connector and causes so many light and gauge issues. GM's across the board are known for this issue. Go with this one more time and try it. But you did find a mouse next of???? WIRES??? hopefully not a mouse nest... This Blazer had 2 issues, light switch and that Cluster issue. Changed out that dimmer switch. Things seemed fine, after a very short time, he came back and noted losing the gauges, went after that cluster, wiggled the harness at the Cluster and the fuel gauge jumped all over the place. Had the clsuter repaired. $200.00 installed and to this day, it works fine. I did pull the harness to igve it more slack. Stumpr1
