Hi thealexpshow782, Thanks for watching and for your comment. The Caltrain line between San Francisco and San Jose is in the process of being electrified. Chicago also has electric commuter trains on the old Illinois Central and South Shore lines. Cities are opting for light rail now because of costs and other factors. As you probably know, Portland, Oregon has a nice light rail system. Having said that, Europe is covered with electric trains that have been there for a long time. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😄

I do remember that little tower cottage beside the railway, I'm sure it was part of it but I cannot remember exact location.was it on King and Victoria, or one block north towards Waterloo King? I sure would love some help on this!
@tassiebaz22 күн бұрын
Hi stevelauda5435, Thanks for watching and for your question. The time I took the photos was my only visit to Kitchener. Looking at the pictures (I think the one to which you refer is at 3:56), makes it look like the tower was on King where it crossed the railway at grade. I had a look on Google maps and everything has changed since the pictures were taken 54 years ago, so it's hard to match anything up with the pictures. Perhaps someone more familiar with the area can provide a more definitive answer. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😄

I rode the 66 and the ride was really nice. In 1974 my fellow graffiti artists and I graffed the trolley buses and it was a ripper to see our artwork roll by on the 59,66, and the 75. I was 15,going on 16. The reality was that that was the way things were in Philadelphia at that time. I am amazed that trackless trolleys aren’t even a mention in any transit plans broached in North America. I’m appalled that so much money and resources are being wasted on the stupidity of battery electric vehicles.
@tassiebaz25 күн бұрын
Hi user-oy2xc7yf4i, Thanks for watching and for your informative comment. As you probably know, SEPTA tried to replace trackless trolleys on routes 29 and 79 in South Philadelphia with electric buses and failed miserably. The buses just couldn't perform. San Francisco, Seattle, and Vancouver all have a large trackless trolley system and are continually getting newer vehicles. I'd be surprised to ever see that happen in Philadelphia. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😄

I was 7 going on 8 when the 75 was cut back to the el. The line crossed the 56 trolley line and continued to the river. Unfortunately that part of the line was a casualty of I95 just like the el was between Market and Girard..Unfortunately I never got to ride this part of the line.
@tassiebazАй бұрын
Hi user-oy2xc7yf4i, Thanks again for watching. At least the El was just relocated and not replaced with a bus (Route J). Before it was shortened, there was no wire on Penn Street from Orthodox to Arrott, so all trips from Wayne Junction had to go to Bridesburg to get back to Frankford. There was a cutback at Orthodox and Edmund, But I don't remember any scheduled trips through there. The service was very frequent, with some headways of only 3 minutes in the rush hour. Right before the route shortening, the wire was installed on Penn Street (current route) with a switch at Orthodox and Penn, so some trips used that. Cheers, tassiebaz. 😁

@tassiebazАй бұрын
Hi davidkean1487, Thanks for watching and for your comment. If the overhead is properly maintained and the operators trained adequately, a system like this works fine with few dewirements. San Francisco and Seattle currently have trolleybus systems with complex junctions and there are no problems. Chicago just wanted to substitute buses as did many cities about that time. Cheers, tassiebaz.

Now it has turned into a not-so-great place no thanks to all the "users" and their support groups. Roads are in bad shape. Garbage (just about) everywhere. Nasty pot smell on occasion. As for the trolleys, the colour schemes were much better with lots of white. Current ones are so gray, it's sad. Bring the white back.
