Had the same issue. I thought it could have been the switch. But didn’t know where it was 🫣😄. Thank you for tutorial and the tip regarding the brake fluid. It only has its MOT this morning! 😄😄

My midget’s brake lights have just stopped working. Should I check for a blown fuse first?

Hi let me start I not mechanical. My other half has a 1500 rubber bumper Midget and it has air in the hydraulics. However I cannot cannot find this secondary cylinder anywhere nothing seems to have a bleed value that I can see. I have looked in the inspection hatch by the passenger wheel. The drivers side and followed all the tubes and pipes everywhere. There is a junction where they all meet but cannot see a bleed valve . Googled for the location no results been have an mg repair Manuel and Haynes Manuel. They call discuss it but no diagram to where it actually is ! Any ideas where it is 😎 many thanks

I have a 77 Midget with no brake lights here in the US. Switch is under the steering column, and much smaller, but jumping the switch doesn't turn on the lights. Checking voltage at the socket and upstream wiring next.

And.... It's got a brake light switch on the front side of the master cylinder that's bad, you solved it. I don't know what the heck the thing is under the steering column, it's attached to the brake line at the splitter. Maybe an abandoned brake light switch?

Thank you as well, Mike. New MGB Roadster owner with the same problem of the brake lights not working. This give me a starting point to investigate as to why they're not. Hopefully this is it.

Anyone reading this on a late model 1500 - you might be surprised to find the slave cylinder on the other side of the clutch to the driver's side. Drove myself crazy trying to find it - it's only accessible from under the car on these models.

Interesting . Well I’m not sure I’d take my 1953 Studebaker to these jokers but they did do the job . My shop (cave) looked a lot like there’s , brought back memories , we did some phenomenal work under not so perfect conditions . It’s all about the mechanic , looks can be deceiving . A decent mechanic can work anywhere . “Crack on boys” as you Brits say and may god save the Queen ! P.S. Hope Boris pulls through with this virus bullshit , he’s a good man .

I've also read that one can take off the brake reservoir cap and replace with cling-wrap (or equivalent) to minimize air entry. Good to know that one can quickly change out the switches without necessarily having to bleed the brakes. :-)

Thank you Mike. You have just saved me a lot of time and frustration. For a novice like me, it's people like you who are willing to share their knowledge that make owning an MG practical, but also make us feel part of a community. BTW loved the music!

Remember to reduce the pressure in the spare tyre, in line with the Eezibleed instructions - don't pressurise the system at 30 psi or similar! Also, make sure that when pressurising, don't commit immediately - check that the seal with the master cylinder filler is sound [either get someone to check or have the wheel in a position where you can see the master], otherwise you could have a thin jet of fluid coating your engine compartment, or worse, your external bodywork.

What I do with my midget is to back bleed it. ie forcing the fluid through the bleed nipple and up into the master cylinder thus forcing the air out since the fluid will go to the lowest point first and expell the air,as the fluid fill the pipes etc, this works well. I do this with the brake aswell. since the master cylinders at the highest point
